Odom would do a good job there imo.
He could be, but he would need an ace OC for that to happen. However, he wouldn’t be the first guy who couldn’t cut it at a big time P5 who was just fine at a G5. Look at Jim MacElwain for a good example of this.
This still goes against Memphis’ MO the last 9 years. You get more buzz with a successful up and comer and that program needs that. They are consistently a top 5 in the G5 and they have to kill this hire to stay there.

I think Memphis could be a good job for a guy like Napier or Healy. It’s a better job than the gigs they’re at now and it gives them another chance to prove themselves at a bigger school before jumping up to a P5 job

He's bringing Derek Dooley with him.

He flopped at TN, and was mediocre at La Tech as their head coaches. Up and comer?

Nevermind.

They are promoting OC. No link

You’re talking about Ryan Silverfield. He’s not the OC, but the O Line coach and associate head coach. That’s who Norvell recommended.

I think its Silverfield's to lose. Already apparently won the press conference where they announced him as the interim. Media loves him, fans want him, been here for a while, fits the profile for the identity Memphis is trying to build. Not to mention former, current and future players are all singing this guys praises. Seems pretty cut and dry

I thought Long might get it over him, but if they really feel he can truly maintain the level they’ve gotten to, then so be it.

Id be ok with either. I honestly have no clue though. Just seems like a lot of people like the idea of continuity. Long has been gone a while and Silverfield is fresh on peoples mind. Media seems to be behind him as well.

So, will Silverfield or Norvell coach Memphis in the Cotton Bowl? Will Norvell coach Florida State in the Sun Bowl?

I'm not really sure. Norvell said last night he'd like to do it and the AD pretty much said if he wants to they'd be open to it. I think i saw somewhere that the ball was in Norvells court and he was going to take a few days to think about it. I highly doubt he would coach FSU's. If I'm not mistaken interims pretty much always coach those even if a coach is in place.

Silverfield will be on the sidelines regardless as the interim

Healy is a stud but just got to Charlotte

This could be Brady’s chance for a HC job - I mean, Memphis has some talent at QB and the skill positions...

That's what I thought in the FSU bowl game. I'd like to see him coach Memphis in the Cotton Bowl. He got them here, let him carry it through.
