I see several posts about Leach to Ole Miss being far fetched. However, I haven’t seen any substance to that assertion.

Please advise why Leach to Ole Miss is so unlikely.

Not happening until after next year. It will happen then, though. And they know the hire needs to be great. Luke has done a very serviceable job under the circumstances, though.

They are paying O, a coach who could not get another HC job, 3.5 million.

O has LSU in the top 10 in the country and will likely get a NY6 bowl. At 3.5 million, name another coach/school in the country that can say that? You can hate him because he did not win at Ole Miss, but you’d have to hate all of your coaches since Vaught, except Money Bags (who never should have been fired and OM should hire again to stick it to the NCAA the way they stuck it to OM).

Ha! Apparently you never showed up because people definitely quit showing up weeks ago. As for quitting with donations, this seems like the time to donate to get money to pay for a new coach.

Why is Mike Leach a pipe dream? Dude wanted the Tennessee job bigly last year.

Mike Leach is at a relatively low-pressure job at Washington State and has them in the top 10. They will throw the relative bank at him in his next contract extension. He is from California. He is 57 years old. With the fall of the traditional and modern PAC12 powers (USC and Oregon) he is set to start making Rose Bowl and CFP runs. He is not going to leave that to come to Ole Miss and begin a complete rebuild job. If he was interested in Tennessee, it's because they have a much larger and better funded program than Ole Miss with better recruiting on a yearly basis and had, if they wanted, the ability to throw mad, stupid money at him.

We need someone who is younger and has the ability and energy to build a program from the ground up. As much as I like Mike Leach, he is on the back-end of his career and will be slowing down in the next 3-4 years, and I don't want him doing it at Ole Miss while on a very large, multimillion dollar contract with a monstrous buyout.

I love Leach, but I couldn't see him putting up with big time boosters and doing all the recruiting you need to do in the SEC. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would play nice with someone who thinks because he inherited a dozen Ford dealerships between Jackson and Memphis, he's allowed to provide input on the Ole Miss offense.

I thought about that, too. But every school deals with this to some extent, even Washington State. They may do a better job of insulating the coach and staff from the boosters, which a lot of schools might need. This has been the boat anchor in several programs, and is most evident at the University of Texas.

OM has plenty of funding and just as good of a recruiting base, if not better. May not have a national brand like TN, but that brand has been greatly tarnished in the last decade.

Agree that Leach won’t leave. He’s made Wazzou relevant again, which was hard to do. He should ride this wave. It’s not a knock on OM at all (he wouldn’t go to Texas or Michigan either). He probably wouldn't leave to coach at any SEC gig other than Kentucky or Vandy just to be a contrarian. He probably wouldn’t leave to coach at almost any other place. Wazzou is perfect for him and he’s perfect for them.

I have thought about this year and what we should do. We need a new chancellor. Then we can get a new AD. Then we can get a new HC. Even if we did that ASAP, it would be next year. So the good news is that we put together as good a class as possible. We fire Luke early next year.

this is a dream you’re living in. He wants a big job. He wanted Tennessee last year. He wants the big stage he loves it. If a big team ever came calling he’d be all over it and I wouldn’t be surprised if he got those calls soon.

Issue is there’s a lot of stuck up arse decision makers that would rather hire some old fart with no sense than hire Leach because he’s a little kooky

You’re right. We need top down fixes. Which, as we all already know, means Luke is here through at least 2019.

I guess the big question for the upcoming year is what self-respecting, half-intelligent coordinators will come to Ole Miss if we fire McGriff and Longo?

I can’t wait for our dumbass athletic director to buy out our current coordinators and then add some new ones for multi-year deals only to fire Matt next year when we bottom out at 3 wins and have to pay them out too. We are digging ourselves a massive hole.
