Please tell me why he would be a good hire, goes to the Fiesta bowl and has 20 returning starters and goes 7-5 in a weak arse conference. Campbell pumpers explain it to me how that isn't the definition of mediocre. I get it he cares for his players, so did Leslie Miles and so did Coach Zero.

Would you rather a coach who does not care about his players?

He's winning at Iowa State, a place with no natural recruiting hotbed, mediocre facilities, and they're little brother to Iowa.

Lincoln Riley took Bob Stoops program and kept it at the level Stoops left it and this board was wanting to fellate him.

Campbell has actually built something out of little to nothing.

Campbell will get run out of town here by the rabid fan base if he pumps out 4-5 losses a season. That's what you want? All college coaches love their players that isn't a reason to hire a mediocre coach IMO.

Edit: a Good coach who gets mediocre results

Maybe you should watch an Iowa State game? There are very few 3 star recruits and likely no 4 and 5 star recruits but they are well prepared and play like teams with the 4 and 5 star recruits. IDK how it works here but he is no doubt an excellent football coach.

Napier was not just squeaking by but excelling at a place with in a fertile recruiting ground but no real recruiting inroads, zero facilities, zero history/tradition, zero money for asst or background staff salaries and little third cousin to LSU. Napier actually built a dominant winner out of zero. Napier doesn’t really move the needle as a splash hire, Campbell less so.

I watched 2 Iowa St games this year because I wanted to understand and they lost both. I get it lowly Iowa St but he had 20 returning starters and got crappy results. He is one game better than Ogre who had half his team quit on him by mid season

Napier was my first choice…of college coaches. I’m really happy we didn’t get Riley. I was cringing Saturday evening. Thanks to USC. Riley is a whiner and there is always plenty to whine about here.

Campbell is a good coach, he's playing 3 stars who need to be developed and has been doing pretty good with it. Given the type of players he could get at LSU he wouldn't be a bad choice.
Nobody saw the conference turning upside down with OSU and Baylor rising to the top. The media as usual predicted OU (for good reason with the talent on O) and Shorthorns to dominate and thought TCU would contend. Texas is loaded with 4 & 5 stars and did their usual nothing.
