Adam - not to derail your thread but have you heard anything specifically in regards to which players leaving early for the draft? Or are they waiting to see who the new hires are?

I honestly have no idea which guys are coming back yet

You’re saying LSU will announce Freeman as DC tomorrow?

Not a lot of fluff by OP. Just calling a shot and walking away. I’m excited to see what happens.

Billy on 247 said his source that said Freeman isn’t coming is a Cinn based source. So maybe the reason he thinks that is because the Cinn side doesn’t know it’s coming yet.

We'll see if it happens. If he does get the job I think he's a smart choice if it works out or not. There's no guarantees, but Freeman looks like a rising star. He also gives us a nice link to the Ohio/BigXII area. He's a LB coach too which we need.

What’s the 12/26 shite about? You saying LSU announces Freeman tomorrow? If not, what’s tomorrow other than the day after Christmas?

I’m guessing it means the deal is done but everyone is enjoying the holiday

Reading the tea leaves. Sonny said something like the OC search is a bit behind the DC search because of how recent everything was.

Which means we’ve probably had feelers out for DC for a while now.

Which means a deal could be done I guess

I will never understand why people think coordinators recruiting ability matters here. We signed a top 5 class and didn’t even have any.

I'd say it's both but usually we get a guy who can only coach.

Never seen OP make a good prediction so unless tigerbaitlawyer says this is going through...I don't believe it. There's now way a deal is finalized at this point. They might've agreed to something but that doesn't mean he's doing anything but using LSU as leverage elsewhere.

Because having a DC who can recruit on top of the other guys puts your class over the top. See guys like Foreman? You don't whiff on them. You turn a great class into a historical class like Bama is doing right now. Surely you're not this shortsighted I hope.

For good reason, too. It severely limits the ability of the HCIW to recruit because the rules that apply to the head coach also apply to the HCIW, specifically, the limits on in home visits for HC vs assistants.

Having a good recruiter is great, but it’s not even close to being the most important factor and it’s not even a question I’m worried about in the decision. O can sign a great class regardless, as you can see.

Because you and him are both simple minded. You can't grasp that having recruiting with your DC also takes your recruiting to the next level. When you're rolling an elite blue chips it sure makes it easier to win NCs and sustain success like the Bama's and Ohio States every year. That instead of having a big burst only every 4 years or so.

LSU's hurdle right now is sustaining success. Their program hits the NC around every 4 years or so and has done it with 3 different HCs in 17 years. That's rare to see so program prestige is there. The issue is we can't consistently have a 1-2 loss team every year. We have to wait until we get a highly developed team. Since we sell 3 years and done to the NFL, it's easier to sell this idea if you're mostly recruiting the highest level because it leaves your cupboard full. Instead, you run into seasons like we saw this year where you see a real lack of talent depth wise and tons of misses.

A lot of those holes are due to last minute whiffs in recruiting. I can point you to several positions this year where LSU thought they had the prospect in the bag and whiffed then that position struggled this year. Sure would've been nice to have some of those players fill the gap. Understand now? You win easier and more when you have better prospects on your roster. It's not a hard concept to understand.
