Not something you see everyday. How would that work exactly?

Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson for example all have 5 defensive assistants and all have the defensive back field covered by 2 coaches.

But, we should go 3 total on defense because Russ Callaway spent a whole year being an analyst. Nobody deserves a promotion more than him. He touched max Johnson's shoulder pads at least twice.

You could have

Raymond - Secondary
Freeman - DC/LB
DL coach

I know how it CAN work. I just don't see it happening like this. We'll see, though. I could be wrong. Definitely wouldn't be the first time.

If we do end up with both Callaway and Mangus, I'd expect the solution would be that McMahan gets moved back to analyst and either go back to special teams by committee, or Faulk/Joesph takes over that role.

I'm really confused as well. I think you would like to have at least 4 defensive coaches.

Maybe McMahon is the odd man out?

Love the hire of Peetz.

Guys like Faulk and Joseph aren't there because of their "coaching" ability. They are there because of their recruiting ability

So maybe put Joseph as RECRUITING COORDINATOR only, not on the field coach. Yes, I understand that likely means he could not actively recruit players himself for in-home visits.

I wonder if there will be a quarterback coach and no safety coach.

I think Having an OC, a PGC and a QB coach is a bit excessive is the PGC isn’t double up with another position.

I an Hoping someone coaches WR. Joseph is a good recruiter, shitty position coach.

As to the hire:

Ceiling: we snagged an up and coming offensive mind who is somewhat familiar with our system.

Floor: we were so desperate to keep 2019 magic alive we hired a guy with no coordinator experience and an NFL background because he coaches with Brady for a year.

Isn't there usually a linebackers coach on the defensive staff?

So you are suggesting that our recruiting coordinator not actually...recruit?

Should the S&C coordinator have weight room access?

The last 2 linebackers coaches have been Pelini and Aranda.

to be fair to him the RC position is more about organization than actually recruiting, its why Frank was good at it and Robinson sucked

Especially if your OC is the experienced QB coach already

I’m fine with an OC not having a position and just worrying about big picture offense stuff.

But what’s the PGC doing at practice if he isn’t coaching a position?

Austin will be the RC basically. Terry Joseph might be safeties coach especially if they think Mickey is about to get it from his Drake dealings. The only way we don't hire another DB coach is if we hire a DB background DC and then we'll hire a LB coach.

Russ Callaway wasn't chosen to be OC, he won't be thrown on the new guys unless you want a Ensminger and Callaway vs the 2 new guys mid season coup brewing.

I'm worried that if they even approach the same level of success as Brady did in 2019, they'll be gone to the NFL after one season.
