Right, there is no reason for Patterson to leave. He is paid well and the school has been committing money to the football program. He is king there.

with patterson making 4 million a year, why would he come to LSU?

Top 5? After Saban and Meyer, there are only three spots left
Douchiness aside I might take him over Meyer. And considering Saban is a few years from retiring....he might be a great hire.
We already have a family man in Les. He's a great guy, but that doesn't really matter to most people.
I want to win.

quote:Hell yes. He has been the best coach ever at two seperate schools. He has won 9 games 4 straight seasons at ULL, which HAD ONLY 1 IN THEIR ENTIRE EXISTENCE BEFORE HIM. He already recruits Louisiana. I dont see how this wouldnt be viewed as a great hire. Every coach worth a shite ever was not a big name at one point
Are you people serious with this guy?

It isn't always about pay, though. These Head Coaches are egotists at heart. Who knows, Patterson may want to test his skills in the best division in college football. I would be very surprised if he didn't at least listen to what LSU has to offer.

Why is Gundy on this list?
He went to OK State, played football at OK State and is now head coach there.
Not A logical Choice IMO

There is rumbling that he is not happy there and that he and T Boone don't exactly get along.

I would take Petrino as well. I really don't care if my coach is a nice guy. I would consider it a bonus but not a requirement

TCU would pay him as much as LSU would pay him. His path to playoff easier at TCU than LSU's path right now with Saban at Bama and sec west being tough.

I would go spend a week in Acadiana coffee shops just to listen to the melt first hand

Not really. This year has proved that the Big 12 "champion" absolutely HAS to go undefeated or else they'll be snubbed. That has to turn off a competitor like Patterson.
An equal paying LSU job >>>>>> TCU job

quote:He went undefeated in 10-11 and won Rose Bowl. He's still there with more money in his pocket and in the program. Has a better chance of making final 4 now than he did of making final 2 before and he's in a great situation. Not saying he won't listen, but I think highly unlikely.
so he doesn't get left out of the playoff, obviously

I keep seeing Paterson and Briles names mentioned. They are both revered at their current schools and both have both brought success that neither school had experienced.
If, either of them came to LSU the pressure and expectations are immediately increased from what they are experiencing now.
Not sure what Briles is making but Patterson is highly paid. Both of them can go 9-3 every year and be there for life. Nebraska just fired a coach that won 9 games every year.
Hell, we are trying to pawn off a coach who has taken 2 teams to the BCS championship game.
Granted I think LSU is a great destination for any coach for a lot of reasons.....but with next coach comes a lot of HIGH expectations.

Don't think this situation repeats itself every year and still probably has a better shot at top 4 there with a possible reluctance to screw the same program again.

Not necessarily. As you insinuated, different coaches motivated by different things.

Most of that list sucks. If Miles did leave us, you'd be better off going after Mike Singletary than those guys - at least he's a disciplinarian.
