Let's talk about leaks for a second

Specific to Coaching searches and hires, how does this process typically work? On purpose or by someone (trusted) close to sources being in the right place at the right time?
Pendergrast and Shoop were our there... Fast forward
Miles has been able to keep things very quiet over the last 4 days
Charlie was hinting and hinting...like he knew something big but could not go public (to protect the source and timing) as though he was asked to hold it back, until today??
Monday afternoon rolls around and the leaks start happening
now, is this to give the fans and media something else to chew on for a few more days while Miles is doing a magic trick on someone else behind the scenes?
I am sure it's hard to keep everyone quiet but then again, your average American can usually keep a job interview very private.
Are the agents responsible for the leaks.
If it was done on purpose, would be the advantage of launching this tonight?
So ESPN will cover it with the build up of the game?
I am trying to understand the "chess" game that was being alluded to by other posters.
thanks

These are all good questions.
The only way I could see this benefitting LSU is by perhaps putting pressure on candidates to make a decision on LSU sooner rather than later.
Even then, I think it's a stretch.
It might just be that this search is finally getting started...and that there wasn't much of a search ongoing during the first several days.

What I heard last week was: Del Rio, Zook or Smart.
..but that LSU was fricking it up.
Kept that to myself until now.

quote:No surprises here. Doesn't hurt to talk to Del Rio, but there ain't a chance in hell he comes here. I would be excited about Smart if we had the personnel to run a 3-4 scheme. I think Zook would work, but why would we have to wait on a special teams assistant?
fricking it up.

JDR would be a HC candidate
We're not hiring an asst ST coach whose units have allowed 7 blocks this season as our DC.
And Smart is just getting him a bigger piece of AL pie. I wouldn't be excited about Smart who has been in a 3-4 w his Daddy over his shoulder and still giving up too many points to non-traditional offenses for our offense to overcome anyway.
Back to leaks.....
Most of that is a mole hunt if you get my drift.

I sure did.
Nothing was posted here by me releasing that info.

I'm betting agents are involved in a lot of these "leaks."

I was just told Don Pellum of Oregon by a buddy who works at the Alumni Association. He claims to have gotten the "inside scoop". What is the difference between leak and rumor?

Well, I guess the difference is being allowed to have inside scoop versus the HC or agent, putting out a release to the media "Ok, you can say this...."
In some cases, I think the staff starts talking to their coaching buddies, and that's how we get chatter that becomes "smoke". the coaching fraternity seems to know stuff and they like to talk about what they hear about....
With social media today, it takes no time at all for an innocent comment to become a rumor that becomes National headlines...
that's how deals get messed up
There is a poster on 247 that swaps texts with Coach O...apparently Smart is in play... so let's see what happens

Do you think that false information is leaked to put pressure on the right places?

Maybe not false info. But they will definitely leak info to a reporter and do them a favor by giving them a scoop, and sometimes they will give a particularly desperate or loud-mouthed reporter information that may serve a purpose.

I can see agents having an advantage to gain by doing this, but I hope HCs are above playing games with reporters.

Are the agents reaponsible for the leaks
Of course they are.
Les doesn't have Bob Schoop's number in his cell. Les doesn't have Kirby Smart's number in his cell. Les doesn't have *insert whatever name you want* cell phone number.
Everything goes through agents.
"Hey, Jimmy. Ask George about the LSU job and how much they're willing to pay."
"Ok, Kirby. I'll let you know what I find out."

I thought we were going to talk about this guy:

The Shoop leak was 100% orchestrated by Shoop and Franklin
