Other than the big names (Peterson, Paterson, Pelini, Mullen, Tubbs, Davis, Gruden) who are some lower profile names that might make the long list we would research?

Sumlin?
Art Briles?
Sarkesian?
Troy Calhoun?

Not saying these would be guys we would hire but are there names under the radar that might be a good hire? Would any of us be pleased with these hires?

I like him also. I like the fact that he has coached at a high level. I'm still a little concerned that he has underperformed so far. If Kelly can get Oregon to the title game I would think Sark could compete at a little higher level.

Does anyone know much about Calhoun? Seems to be successful. What type of style do they play and is he an O or D minded guy?

Blakeny at Troy would be the under the radar guy that I think could be a huge success with our talent.

Flex Bone/Option- I think.

But Calhoun was the OC for the Texans so he knows how to run a pro style offense.

What about Gary Crowton? He has been a HC twice before.

Who is the guy from Nevada? I think he is older though.

Any NFL guys with college coaching ties?

I think probably 6-8 of those guys would realistically come here. Quite frankly I'd be satisfied with any of them. My concern is keeping Billy, Frank Wilson, and Chavis. And Moffitt.

Losing Miles would not be the end of the world. Especially if one of those 11 guys comes and we keep our top recruiters. My biggest concern of all is keeping Chavis. I love his scheme and we recruit uniquely to it. Switching back to a 4-3 type defense would get us pushed around in the run game because of the size of the guys. Just my opinion.

i love the chief and hope he stays here if miles moves on and if we hire an offensive guy. that said, i dont think our recruiting will be any different than for any other DC

I think Chavis staying depends on 2 things...who we hire (defensive minded guy he goes) and who is calling at the time. Had Texas called next week he would probably be gone all of this of course is if Miles were to leave. I think Chavis is here as long as Miles is. If Miles doesn't leave now he is here for a long time.

I would actually really like Troy Calhoun as coach. Hear me out.

First off, his name is Troy, which guarentees he's a cool guy.

He was a sucessful OC at multiple schools, including a few schools in BCS conferences. He's run a number of different offenses, all of them being successful. He was also a QB coach.

He was an offensive and defensive assitant in the NFL, meaning he knows the game well. Know most notably as the OC for the Texans in the NFL.

He's never won fewer than 8 games at AF, which is pretty good as I would think they have a hard time recruiting the best athletes because you actually have to go into the military after college if you go to AF.

Simply put, the Troy Calhoun hiring earns my full endorsement.

I think Sumlin is going to make a great head coach one day. I know he was high on Foley's list, but he sort of fell under the radar this year with so many of his QBs being injured and not having as good a year as was be expected.
