Very true Chicken...but...Michigan couldn't come CLOSE to this offer...even if they WANTED HIM BADLY and they surely haven't shown that...It just won't happen.

belowpar, I understand that, but I never thought that money would be a factor in keeping Miles from taking the job. I really doubt he leaves, but that window will be open until they hire a new coach.

I don't think it would either. I think, as long as they offer about 1.8-2 million at least, he could go.

Hypotheically, we win the BCS game. Les gets bumped up to what 3.5 mil. Michigan waits and offers 2 mil.

Pro Football Talk is floating the idea that Michigan is possibly looking at some NFL coaches.
Two names they specifically mentioned are Marvin Lewis (Bengals) and Mike Shanahan (Broncos), mostly under the idea that these guys may be looking to jump before they either spend a year on the hot seat or get fired.
One who could make sense, but probably won't get it due to the same kinds of issues as Miles, would be Miami coach Cam Cameron.
Cameron was on staff in Ann Arbor under Gary Moeller in the early 90s and was mentioned at one point as a potential long-term replacement for then-interim coach Lloyd Carr.
The main reasons he won't, besides not wanting to abandon his potentially 0-16 Dolphins, deal with the fact that Cameron was apparently hated by a lot of the other assistants at Michigan during his time there, especially Carr.
If Miles will get screwed over by Carr, you better believe that Cameron would if he came there.

I just don't know. I mean, he'd get significant cash plus with all of the stuff he's said in the media about staying.....just depends. Carr is still there and apparently there is a faction of people who don't like him connected to the program and then all of the assistants he'd have to keep(unless that would change)who are loyal to Carr....I don't know. But, I just feel there is a large "groundswell" of support for Miles coming. Unless they hire real big......like Schiano or someone, their new hire will cause serious rifts among alumni and the fanbase, I feel.

so les sees an open window that's gonna cost a 1.25 mill buyout and get him at least 1 mill less per year and you think he jumps when they didn't even call him back. he's got 15 mill guaranteed through 2012 here plus guarateed top three SEC and maybe national if he wins.

There not looking, they've proved that. Most big money alumni, ex football players and fans wanted Miles. It shows you how much power the small inner circle (Lloyd Carr & clan) have. If Michigan doesn't hit a big name coach there will be a lot of explaining to the people that were pro Miles. I never wanted Carr to succeed Gary Moeller, I thought Bill McCartney who was also a mentor to Miles would be best to take over. He had to go and start the Promise Keepers and we got Carr by default. Bo didn't want Carr either.
Note to Carr " Thanks for screwing the program another 10 years.
