with a good DC and florida talent, leach could be pretty damn good with the system he runs.

hell, his team put up 31 on oregon. lost 38-31.
put 59 up on cal, lost on a missed 15 yard fg.

How about this carousel? Les to UM, Bo to LSU, Mike to FSU.

I agree. All Mike has lacked all along is a good defense. The man has a brilliant offensive strategy.

BTW, I did read his book and the man deserves good things to come his way.

Texas is huge in 7on7 football/passing leagues. That is what he needs to win.

Doesn't get that at Wazzu

What DC would be brave enough to work for him?? He would need to be in dire need of a job. His O puts the worst stress on a D. I think he is of the old Warren Woodson mold....."Only reason for a defensive is to have someone to play against."

People who like Mike Leach tend to like him for reasons that transcend football. His teams may not win a lot of games but one can rest assured that they will be prepared. He likes to pass the ball a lot, a lot more than I would pass the ball if I were a coach. But I understand why he chooses to do so. He's doing the best he can with the situation at hand and the talent available. And he loves to win.

Had I played for Leach, I would have been picking his brain at every opportunity. He's a perfect example of experiential teaching at its finest. He may not be a great role model, but he can straight up teach. And he teaches things not only applicable to the football field, but also to life. I haven't yet read his book, 'Geronimo', but I will because the man isn't just a good coach...he's brilliant and inspiring.

I understand your point but I'm not sure that Leach has ever had a really good defense. I don't think he ignores the importance. He just hasn't had the talent for whatever reason. Maybe he needs to do more with recruiting on that side.

Bo Pelini maybe?

That's pretty amazing. And his defenses did appear to be significantly better in '05 and '09. They weren't great but definitely not really bad.

I would think SMU would be a better job and they have deep pockets.

to be fair, he did it in an age when 6-6 gets you in a bowl.

in the 90s you could win 8-9 and still miss out.

on the other hand, he is their most successful coach since the 70s, one of only 5 Tech HCs to make it to 100 games coached, has the most wins for a Tech HC even though he coached in 23 less games than Spike Dykes, and has the highest winning % of a Tech HC that coached in either the SWC or Big12. (Tech was in the Border Conference until 1960) The only HC at Tech that comes close to his success was Jim Carlen and that was only for a 5 year stretch before he left for USCe.

Because he basically is the godfather of the style that resurrected their program.

like '05ish I think

I'm not saying that he had a ton of 6-6 teams (he didn't)

I'm saying its a lot easier to make a bowl now because there are so many. If there had been as many bowls back in the day as there are now Spike Dykes would have gotten them to 7 straight. (now he was a Tech HC all about going 6-5)

Wow.
In addition to being someone who killed 4 or 5 hookers while he was at SMU, Craig James is a baby-back bitch. His son is a punk-arse bitch.

would be good for him. His heart will always be in Texas. I just wish Strong would get rid of Shawn Watson and some how get Leach as OC. That would be my dream

Is he is job shopping again? I think it would be a dumb hire by them if they do that.

I am not a Leach fan at all, think he is over rated. Coog High needs to go get someone who will committ to them. I do not know who that is, as it is not a great job as in the past. Briles made it attractive again, but it is losing traction.

I would not want him on my staff anymore either, as I think he would backstab you.
