What's ta&m's consensus on Strong...has the Richt thing died down or does it still have legs?
The Louisville AD won't give permission for contact. If he was absolutely first choice, you'd work on that situation, but given the time pressure involved, the UL AD probably has successfully delayed Strong long enough that he won't be in the mix.

It seems that Richt has indicated interest, and may even have interviewed, but this was mostly likely done with an eye toward negotiating an extension with UGA (he's entering the final year of his contract next year) rather than due to legitimately being interested in the A&M job. No doubt some other coaches are doing the same thing to get leverage with their employers, which makes it difficult to know whether their professed interest is real or not.

I'm sure it goes without saying but I'm going to have to disagree with you.

I typed out several reasons why but then I realized that would be a lost cause.

I will say that I think Richt is obviously your best choice and IMO he's your only viable option and the rest of the field is WEAK without some sort of DarkHorse out there...one of which you will not share.

Of course I feel like your BEST choice was to keep Sherman and let a proven recruiter charter the unknown territory you joining the SEC brings and let him take a few blows on the chin for a year or two THEN strike when you can chose who you want not pick what's left.

I don't disagree with you BaylorTiger...

with that said, I feel Fedora, Richt or Strong would succeed.

We are still recruiting well without a HC... the SEC is paying off.

Only time will tell...I plan on coming back to this thread and TTT 5 years from now with an update on Briles...and how lucky UT is to have him as a coach.

Set an outlook calendar reminder.

He was meeting with A&M today. He was supposed to at least, no idea if it went through. Since our inside guy said it, the other guy is Kirby Smart. Calhoun did too.

Legacy,

i heard that there may be interest in Dabo Swinney and Chad Morris.

Dabo is close to Gene Stallings and Chad Morris is the OC at Clemson but has Texas ties

Any truth to this

As far as I know, no. That seems to be popular today but i havent heard it. Especially with Morris inking that new deal.

Thanks...the sports radio guy in Columbia is probably just trying to stir stuff up for the Clemson fans in this area.

Appreciate the heads up.

Shoot be a message if that changes.

but not Sumlin?

what has Fedora done that is so special by comparison? He inherited a far more stable program and has won at about the same clip as Jeff Bower.

I'm not saying I would be against Fedora. I have actually found things to like about all of the names we have heard and have Fedora as #2 on my initial list. Of course I don't get to interview them so all I have to go by is their record and second hand comments from other coaches.

Gene is not a regent anymore and likely is not involved in the process. Dabo may just be finishing for an extension with Clemson.

Morris doesn't just have ties to the state, he is, in fact, an Aggie, and a lot of folks have wanted him as OC. If Dabo were to come, it would have to be with Morris in tow. Supposedly, Urban Meyer is interested in Morris as OC at Ohio State.

I'm not the anti-sumlin crew but I have my reservations... mainly the defense.

Fedora loves him some defense and likes aggressive defensive decision makers.

Even if we end up hiring Sumlin, I'm just happy that the AD is actually interviewing a ton of candidates and seems to be going after the big names. At this point, if Sumlin gets the job, I'll accept that they thought he was the best available coach.

Too bad the Louisville AD is being a b*tch by not allowing an interview with Strong and Fedora is being put in a bind by UNC. Both situations are putting A&M in a pinch.

I'm not sure I would call Fedora a defensive minded coach.

He runs a fairly uptempo offense at USM much like when he was OC at Okie Light.
