If anything coach has been a solid stop gap coach which can be helpful when a coach like miles leaves. Stabilizes things. Just need to hope he doesnt mess things up, and fills the cupboard right.

Never know if he's in place until one of the coordinators is ready cause lsu did go pretty solid there initially. Or maybe until a really good coach comes up to go after.

Going thru what I did during the fulmer-kiffin-dooley-jones era at UT I would gladly have taken what is going on right now under coach O at lsu. The guy loves the school and is as happy as a pig in shite to be there. I could see him willingly "retiring" when the right coach to take lsu to the next level truly comes up.

It'll be interesting to see how bama handles sabans retirement next. UT f'd it up. I think lsu took the safe landing option.

The hype was incredible. I was completely in shock for a good 10 mins after I saw it. But once the shock wore off, I really thought about it. And after 30 mins of seeing that news, I knew it wasn't gonna happen. No way this was gonna be announced during the game. I had a feeling Herman's agent was leaking this out in order to get Texas's attention. And it sure as hell worked. It also made us look like some assholes for "announcing" this in the middle of a game.

Bama already has a dump truck of cash ready for Dabo. UT hit gold. Herman's gonna have those boys competing for titles. Wouldn't completely say LSU took a safe landing option, considering O's past as a HC. Sure you hired a guy who was already in the program and knew the players but he was/still isn't guaranteed to be a success. The infuriating thing for me about the O hiring isn't who we hired as our HC, its how we did it. We had 2 months to search for someone and we didn't interview anyone else.

What the hell are you talking about? Miles didn't "leave"... He was forced out. You don't to that and then turn around and look for someone to "stabilize". You let go a legend in order to hire the next big thing. That's Herman, not Ogre.

I guess the rest just went over your head cause you would understand that UT did exactly the same by forcing fulmer out, and went big for a generally unproven to then get bitten hard. If alleva didnt get the feel from herman he would be 100% dedicated to lsu then alleva made the right call.

What happened at UT was unprecedented, and it is definitely a case study of what not to do when you force a successful long term loved coach out. Any AD in in alleva's position better have studied it before making moves.

Ohhh and "leaves/forced out". Tomato/tamato. He's no longer there, therefore, he left the building.

Aleeva never met with Herman. Or even his agent. There was probably talks between Aleeva and Herman's agent's assistant or something like that.

Ah yes the "we likely couldn't have gotten Herman once Texas entered the picture so might as well punt at that point and settle for our 30th best option" argument. That's gold.

I know Paterno's force out was for different reasons, but PSU turned around and hired two coaches better than the recent version of Paterno. Likewise with Bobby/Jimbo. There are plenty of examples on both sides.

Tennessee is at a disadvantage compared to those schools, and LSU, because of their native recruiting footprint and competitors for the nearest fertile grounds. I don't expect the Vols to ever be a powerhouse again.
