re: Larry Porter - does he have a legit shot at landing Stud?

Stud may be the worst OL coach in all of America. I have no idea. I'm curious as to how all his haters know this to be the case, though. What I do know is that in his 4 years here, we've had 3 1,000 yard rushers. And those 3 were all considered (by the negatigers, who not coincidentally imo, seem to be the same ones who had Stud the most) to be inferior to more "talented" backs and only played ahead of them due to some combination of favoritism and seniority.
Granted, my eye for OL position coach grading is not nearly as sharp as Maximus, Dodd, the Egg, and the like, but our OL problems to me seem to have stemmed mainly from personnel more than anything else. Though I do hesitate to say that Stud remains on staff because he's doing a decent job rather than because he BBQs a mean babyback.

You just like him because he's white. I wonder why you never stood up for Earl Lane like this.

I am not standing up for him at all. He may indeed be terrible. If he is, I hope he gets replaced. I'm just not convinced of it. Clearly, part of my post was sarcastic, but I honestly don't know how to accurately evaluate position coaches. Especially ones with shitty players. I will concede that he and Miles may play inferior linemen due to "smarts" or whatever, though.

they played TBob at guard against UNC because he told them when Blackwell got hurt "coach, i can play." That kind of attitude is what wins championships, not any kind of talent.

And it's 2010 & Good Ole TBob is still getting pushed around in the SEC. Been a long time since I've seen an LSU offensive lineman get pushed around as much as he does.

I'm not going to defend TBob's play this season as the best possible option at guard, but to say it's been a long time since you've seen an OL at LSU pushed around like that is just pure hyperbole.
Even ULL knocked our tackles on their arse last season. Go back and watch last season if you need to jog your memory a bit.
I'll even go a step further to give TBob some credit. His shining moment was the last drive of the Ole Miss game. He went out there and played with an attitude. But, his size is going to limit his effectiveness.

I wonder if Miles whould have played Rohan Davey, because I'm not totally convinced that he even showed up for practice.

I can't imagine LP being able to hire somebody away from Se LA State, much less LSU.
Guy has to be the worst coach in FBS football, it'd be a joke to work on that staff

you make a legit point on 1000yd rushing, but I still think the OL was taken a downturn over the last few years.
On top of that, it just seems like the offense as a whole isn't held to the same standard the defense is. It's like Les' own job has to be on the chopping block before he makes an offensive staff change.

We've been getting 1000yd rushers, but has our overall rushing yards gone up or are they just being consolidated?

Don't know a lot about Porter, but I would expect that if he gets the offence right he will be a success at Memphis. The defense will be brought up to snuff as quickly as possible.Geaux Tigers and Go Memphis Tigers!!!!
