Got a buddy in the office who's a big Sparty fan/alum. Says since Monday there's been serious chatter that Kelly could end up at MSt.

Personally I think he'd be a good fit at a school that has struggled for several years and who's expectations aren't what they are in the SEC.

Correction: Kelly coached at central Michigan.

Jonathan Smith is on a 7 year 53 mil deal

Anything in that ballpark would essentially wipe out the buyout, that would be way too easy for LSU so it definitely won't happen

MSU has money and they are ready to play.

Kelly is a good fit in that area but I think his only oprtions are going to be smaller schools. The era of the retread at big schools is over(I hope).

No he is not he is from Boston area.

He started out at Assumption as a club coach then joined Grand Valley as a GA.

Correction. You're right. He coached at Central Michigan before moving to Cincy..

Would Brian Kelly be a good fit with Michigan State football?

quote:

About 18 years ago, Michigan State football was looking to hire its next head coach, and it landed on Mark Dantonio after taking a look at rising in-state star Brian Kelly.

Kelly was Dantonio's replacement at Cincinnati after spending a few years at Central Michigan following a successful tenure with Grand Valley State. He won back-to-back Division II national titles before Central Michigan hired him, then he went 19-16 in three years with the Chippewas before Cincinnati took him in.

After going 34-6 at Cincinnati over four years, Notre Dame came calling, and he had plenty of success there, winning 92 games (not counting the vacated victories) and even led the Irish to a national title game -- they did lose that game.

That would work out for the Tiggahs. I like it.

Does Kelly's buyout drop if he finds another job? Or, is he guaranteed all of his LSU buyout?

If BC opens up, I'd imagine they'd hire him. Not sure if he would want that one though.

I think he'd jump on MSU or Wisc if they wanted him. Maybe Minnesota if somebody hires away Fleck.

MSU is honestly a good fit for him. Much better than here.
