Lakers go with D'antoni: Phill STUNNED!!

Phil Jackson was prepared to return to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday morning if negotiations between his agent and the team went well, a league source told ESPNLosAngeles.com late Sunday night.
When the Lakers called to tell Jackson that they had instead chosen Mike D'Antoni to be their next head coach, he was "stunned," according to the source, because he had been under the impression "it was his job to turn down" although no formal offer had ever been made.
Instead, the Lakers went with D'Antoni, believing he was a better fit for their current roster, sources told ESPN.
Jackson's triangle offense was seen as a benefit to Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol, but not as conducive to the rest of the players on the roster -- namely point guard Steve Nash and center Dwight Howard.
Another strike against the triangle was the fact this Lakers team struggled mightily picking up the similarly complicated Princeton-style offense being instituted by Brown.

Phil wanted too much control. JB & MK wanted PJ, but didn't want to lose power in organization. That is what comes first, even before winning

Mike D is an excellent hire in this particular situation. the teams probelm, with kobe, artest and howard is not defense. they can play defense. the team's problem is offense. there is not a getter offensive mind in basketball than MD.

frick the Lakers. I am so sick of people thinking that it is the Lakers god given right to be a contender every year.
I don't think this roster of All Stars gets it together any better than the last group of All Stars they put together with Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Shaq and Kobe. Too many egos. Too many issues. No go-to scorer with Kobe getting older and a new offense to learn during the season. They have talent, but DHoward is not the offensive force he was. Nash is a liability on defense and old. Kobe can shoot and is getting long in the tooth as well. I hope they implode.
