As I think more about this hire, experience within the SEC is the biggest "must-have" in my opinion.

If you look at Kelly, he was "successful", but he was in a completely different class when he came to the SEC. All schools have resources. All schools have talent. All schools have good coaches. Recruiting is an absolute grind. Playing in hostile road venues is different than the other leagues. This job requires a hyper attention to detail and channeled aggression.

An up and coming G-5 coach may have the right traits, but it is such a big jump, we haven't demonstrated patience to allow a coach to take 2-3 years to learn on the job.

So, not saying this has to be a sitting or former SEC head coach, but at worst a coordinator with measurable SEC experience. I'm not convinced an NFL coordinator without SEC experience (playing or coaching) is sufficient.

Wrong. I do wonder how much NIL experience will be taken into consideration

Now do Kalen Deboer.

These guys popped into my head, so I checked their background out. Alex Golesh, Rhett Lashlee, Kenny Dillingham, and John Summerall all have SEC coordinator experience; Brent Key was an SEC position coach.
