Lake and Briles.

Briles has jumped around more jobs recently than anyone I’ve seen in recent years.

Briles is not a huge innovator as more of an executor imo he’s a solid coach thoug
I agree with this. He just runs the same stuff over and over. A little overrated if you ask me. A solid coach but not a ton of upside.

Expect someone he has an existing relationship with based on history.
I not sure about this, but I don't think he had a previous working relationship with 3 of his past 4 defensive coordinator hires. I'm not digging too deep, but I don't see a previous connection with Elko, Lea or Freeman. And with the 4th, VanGorder, I don't see any connection other than they may have briefly crossed paths at Grand Valley State in the 90s.
Also, I don't immediately see a connection with Chip Long or Mike Sanford, his 2 OCs before Rees.
I get that these weren't his first hires at ND, but it seems he's not overly concerned with having previously working with guys before. Nobody can say what would have happened if his coordinators from Cincinnati would have turned him down, but his subsequent hires surely don't indicate a pattern of hiring guys he's worked with already.

I looked at him last night. How would he do with recruiting? I know he's really young, and he's only worked at lower level programs, but he doesn't have much of a recruiting track record.

Look at his first hires at Notre Dame and his first attempts at LSU
The hires you make once you have established yourself are not the hires you make in year 1

I think you hire him based on the innovation and let others drive home recruiting while allowing him to build up his skills. Walking into a home with LSU gear on has to carry some weight.
