Keep reading about The Ogre becoming recruiting coordinator

Why in hell would Les want to change recruiting coordinators? It ain't like the one we have now is fricking up. To me it doesn't make any sense to replace Porter, especially with him heading up the bonanza we're looking to reap this year.

well miles is also responsible for the great recruiting. Also lsu's national power status and recent national champ is givin us a boost. We are losing peveto which is reguarded as one of the best recruiters by rivals. Orgeron was pulling in top talent at OLE MISS! imagine what he could do here. He has conections in miami and california, both loaded with talent. Not to mention he knows most of the high school coaches better then anyone on our staff pretty much.
If you don't want this guy on your staff your nutts.

Yes Henson is the RC and Porter the RB coach. Thak you for the correction and next time I'll try to be perfect like the two of you!
And no, I do not want The Ogre on LSU's staff! What I witnessed with him at Ole Missus was enough for me.

Coach O might help us take recruiting to a new heights. We need Miles and company to do what ever it takes to keep LSU elite...If your not improving daily your going backwards
More importantly, we need that fire put back into the Defense, DL..O is intense
95% of Tiger fans and Tennessee fans see Coach O as a great get if we can land him...
Sure he didn't succeed at Ole Miss, Cultiffe actually did, but it wasn't good enough.. They will be 7-5 more years than not under Nutt, too many big boy programs around Ole Miss, to keep them down

This is the key statement. If Coach O has the ability to build the highest fence possible around Louisiana and also get top talent from out of state then that is what you want. You don't want him going to another SEC school if possible and taking talent away. If O keeps Bama out of Louisiana and USC from coming in and taking the Joe McKnights out of state then this is what we want.

What do we know about Coach Ogeron? He recruited and coached players well at USC. He recruited well at Ole Miss. His head coaching at Ole Miss was suspect, although his personality and temperment were not suited for Ole Miss, and as a result he possibly was not given enough time to show he was indeed capable. His players have played well this year. Some of it at least has to be their ability, which Orgeron recognized. You have to give Nutt a lot of credit for his proven coaching ability. We will never know how Orgeron would have done with Ole Miss this year. Facts.

Well we need a solid DL coach, and his recruiting would be just a big old bonus. Henson would probably keep a title like "co-recruiting coord" heh...or get a new title to allow him to keep money/prestige.
The real question is do you want to fight Orgeron recruiting La. from UT? They have had a presence in La. for a while and it was big at one time. If UT got Orgeron they'd not only get a good DL coach, they'd get an immediate foothold in La.
Then, we'd be fighting great recruiters from all sides. Saban/Meyer from the east, Orgeron/Kiffin from the north, and Muschamp/Mack from the west. There is no need to make it that hard on the staff when you can turn "surrounded on all sides" into "4 foot taller fence" with one hire.

I agree with this assessment. I don't disparage Porter's contribution. Nader is a rock that survives administrations because he keeps his trap tight and does his job, no matter his boss, for the best of LSU. He is a known but often underlooked as a factor in any transition. Coach Orgeron is appealing to me, for many reasons. What I do know, is that as long as we are getting good recruiters, Nader will be there in a big way.

Recruiting coordinator is an administrative position, and is responsible for scheduling, etc., etc.; it isn't necessarily the best recruiter on the team. Who knows how that would shake out and what it would mean for Henson.
What Orgeron brings to the table:
1)Established DL coach at Miami (when they were good), at USC (when they became good), etc.
2)Reportedly is intense, but also has good rapport with players. This would be tremendously helpful, especially with reports of lack of discipline and players not being intense in practice, etc.
3)Excellent recruiter. As head coach, was easy to criticize, but as an assistant, I've never heard bad reports, so you could say that in a strong program, he is simply part of the coaching team and does his job... and on the recruiting front does an outstanding job.
The only negatives are that as head coach, he may have pushed the limits with regards to recruiting. And his intensity has put him in a bad situation or two in his private life, especially if he's been drinking. But as an assistant, I've never heard anything that would make me think he can't work with Miles and the rest of the staff. If he is a professional, he will know his role, and contribute as required.

I think the most under-rated aspect of his recruiting prowess is his talent evaluation skills.
