Has he ever coached in college or recruited?

It worked out really well for the last Patriots OC to be hired as a college head coach

Where do you people come from? I mean, has he ever coached a down in college football? Furthemore, why hire a guy who, if successful, will bolt for the NFL the first chance he gets?

He was about midway down my wish list when we were looking for a HC, mostly because I'm intrigued by what he could do as a college HC. He's pretty young, has lots of fire, has been the long-term OC of one of the biggest dynasties in the NFL, and was an NFL head coach. I think the above mixed with the talent that Louisiana has in state would allow him to hit the ground running when it comes to recruiting. I also think he learned a lot about personnel management and the attitude a HC should have during his short stint as Broncos HC. I'm a Broncos fan and I liked the hire at first, until he made several boneheaded rookie coach mistakes and spoiled me on him as a fan.

He wouldn't be my first choice if I were hiring for LSU, but I'd definitely bring him in for an interview after the first tier choices.

I do find it interesting how there are reports surfacing about McDaniels leaving the Patriots to pursue a head coaching job next year just 24 hours after LSU fired Les Miles. And the reports state "head coaching opportunities" not "NFL head coaching opportunities" which tells me that McDaniels would definitely be interested in a top-tier college job like LSU or USC or Texas.
