Everything points to the notion that FSU in fact did not fight to keep jimbo at all this year.....
I remember when Nick left. I was so excited we no long had to go through the Sexton schuffle at the end of every year. No more yearly coercion and blackmail.
I’ve heard Skip told Nick no more, enjoy Miami.
Please LSU never hire a Sexton client again.

wait, Nick Saban has now went on to be arguably the greatest coach of all time.

And in your own terms, whichever coach has the better year has proven himself to be the better hire
According to my logic, Saban was hired in 2007. So we should compare O and Saban from 2007-Onward

Nick did not want to be at LSU. Nick tormented LSU at the end of every season. Nick left LSU to Pursue a dream.

I know, I was just messing around. I would say it's worth renegotiating every damn year for a coach like Saban though. Assuming he wanted to stay, but just make more money as he kept winning.
The issue at FSU was that they were fine with upping his pay for a time, but not after a season like this, fresh off an extension in 2016.

Sure.
When comparing Jimbo and O, the only years that matter for an lsu fan should be 2017-
Since the hire was made, O is 9-3 and Jimbo is 5-6
But once the hire was made, we have to judge the coaches from the point of hire to see if the true better decsion was made. It is a very very very simple concept
Yes I can. from 2017-indefinite O is 9-3 Jimbo is 5-6
What? All that matters to see who the better hire was is what happens going forward.
5 seems like enough for now. What do I win?

Then you have Orgeron, who lost to Troy, but bounced back bigly, with a real shot at 10 wins in year one

But fact is Allevas hire has been good so far.
The word “good” is debatable when you consider how bad the SEC is this year along with Troy and a record-setting loss to Miss St.
But, for arguments sake, let’s go with “good”. The real problem is we fired a coach who, by like standards, had done “good”.

I don't like our current AD but I don't think he deserves a lot of criticism. Jimbo is probably over rated. Coach O may have been a bad hire. This is a lot more art than science. A lot more luck than anything. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Curly looked good because of Bret Farve. Jimbo looked good because of Jamis. Lots of variables. Saban types are once in a lifetime.

The difference this year is the meltdown of FSU. Jimbo snuck out under cover of darkness this year.
Posted on 12/1/17 at 4:31 pm to TBoy
he has to feel pretty good to have gotten the most lucrative deal in history after going 5-6

I fricking hate Joe alleva. He's a stupid bitch who sucks at his job.

See, you’ve bought into Alleva’s madness. You’re using the perspective that it was either Jimbo or O. Or even Jimbo, Herman or O. Once those become the only measurements, Alleva has us right where he wants us. That’s not a coaching search! That’s an offer followed by a hissy fit. There weren’t a ton of openings last year- we could have done so many more interviews. It really was pathetic.

Well....I think you’ve got your wish.

I haven't bought into the madness, other than to say it is Madness to think a good AD can hire a great coach on a consistent basis. It is a crap shoot no matter how many interviews you conduct. Finance guys can not out perform monkeys throwing darts at a wall with all the public companies on it. So people just buy index funds.

And that worked out great for LSU.

Ok. First, I agree with your premise that there are no guarantees when you do a coaching search. The truth is you can’t call what JA did last year a TRUE search. It doesn’t fit the definition of what good ADs do when they conduct a search. Therefore all the cliches in the world don’t matter. It may be a “crap shoot” at its best but last year JA was playing with no dice.
