Why would FSU match a deal that wasn't available? F. King pulled any offer made, so there was no job for Jimbo to take here or use as a negotiating ploy to get a pay raise.
Les isnt still the coach because Jimbo backed out. Who really knows if Jimbo may or may not have taken the job, but Les is still the coach because the offer was basically pulled by the University President during the Aggie game
Jimbo backed out before that charade played out. I received two texts from LSU employees Friday that Les was staying. Spoke to one of those people in person on Saturday before the game and he repeated the same thing.
Once Jimbo was off of the table, money people starting getting cold feet.
eta. And I believe Jimbo never intended to leave FSU for LSU but there was extensive contact between Sexton and LSU.

The State of Florida barely produced any articles about Jimbo transferring. I feel like the LSU fanbase trolled themselves.
Sadly, FSU probably believes this based on how it looked.
Doesn't matter now...
just know that Jimbo is entering his 10th season at FSU...about the time coaches get tired and or too comfortable .
I am willing to bet that Jimbo won't be there in 2018

Probably more likely than not. Thus far no one is really talking about any real details aside from "unnamed sources" inside of the athletic department which could mean a custodial worker
Probably a case of "if we wish it REALLY REALLY HARD, HOPE AND PRAY, CRY AND WHINE, WE WILL GET OUR WAY."

LSU offered $6.5 mil per so I'd imagine FSU matched or gave him a bigger guarantee. This was a Sexton deal from the start. Jimbo was never coming to LSU. As soon as FSU matched, he called LSU to squeeze more money.
Keep believing this if it gives you comfort. Sexton gets too much credit.

Interesting piece in the Palm Beach Post
FSU boosters were never worried about Jimbo leaving
FSU boosters were never worried about Jimbo leaving

“LSU is no big deal anymore,” said Andy Haggard, former chairperson of the FSU board of trustees, who runs a law firm in Coral Gables.

“If you’re talking about Alabama … But I wouldn’t go to Baton Rouge over Tallahassee. I don’t see LSU as any better job than Florida State. I think the opposite.”

Les Pantin, the vice chair of the board of trustees, said a move would have been “lateral” at best.
“He’s got nothing to gain going to LSU,” Pantin said.

Now there's a shocker. Every FSU booster I've spoken to said they would rather be an LSU booster.

Great sources
The dumbest college graduate I've ever met had two degrees from FSU. Does that make you feel any better?

That was pretty obvious to anyone not connected to the program.

Probably looked like an Ivy grad compared to some of the fine students LSU produces

The biggest irony is an FSU grad hanging around an LSU message board to find intellectual conversation.
