I don't think Texas A&M can be elite. Their last NC was in 1939.
If you're smack dab in the middle of TX and have one NC in the last 100 years, there is some degree of competitive disadvantage that is deeply seeded in the program.

Prior to Nick we were on quite a drought too..An investment in facilities and a good coach put us over the hump. Why do people want to act like we’ve been a blue blood since the start of CFB?

It's a great one actually. You will win a NC, maybe more. No other school will come get him at that price. And he has a floor that will get him into the expanded playoffs almost every single year.

I would be absolutely floored if the powers that be are telling Scott, "Jimbo is the guy". Mainly because I'm naive and if you're giving out a record contract, its hard for me to believe that's your target. I'm that naive to this type of sure stupidity.
Of course, if I was A&M I'd be ecstatic they got that ridiculous contract off my back. A&M isn't some also-ran. They have money and facilities to bring in a decent coach to duplicate the crap Jimbo has served them so far.
