Doesn't O lose some leverage if Payton does what he needs to and shitcans his defensive staff?

They don't like his personality and criminal record. It's part of the reason why Brian Kelly never got a serious look for Head Coach.

So what did BilJ do to get whacked?

If you don't like debate and discussion you really should stay away from message boards.
(I saw your, "Fair Enough" response to BHP, so I am redacting my initial response, which was, "Perhaps you should take that advice yourself, as opposed to making that comment to me.")
However, Cash, seriously, have you read my posts? I'm a trained attorney and analyst. I LIVE for debate and discussion. I just took the opportunity to use one of my favorite movie quotes.

Naw just heard someone was offered a job with LSU possibly being the DC job. Nothing was booked or anything, just hearsay.
Who? Why are you being vague?

But asserting that this hire guarantees a lifetime contract doesn't really support hiring Walker, or a guy everyone passed on like Tenuta, over Chavis.
its asserting that this is the "safe" hire, lower risk and lower reward

You've made about 4 logical jumps from "LSU hires Chavis, who has both SEC and MNC rings within the past decade" to "LSU hires Chavis, who guarantees that LSU will never win the SEC or MNC ever again."
The logical jump comes from being awake for the past decade. UT hasn't won either since the 1998 season which I believe would leave the SEC title out of your "past decade" and put the national title inside of it by about a week.
But, hey, they've been hurt, without any talent and young for the past decade.

Fits with Miles scheme of losing at least two games no matter how talented your are
You are universally on the rag and, with your 76,000 posts, have never delivered an intelligent idea. Chavis is DC pro who can dig in here and have our players know where to be on the field and play with pride and confidence. Who was your top candidate?. By the way, I like O, but his services are minor compared to Chavis' impact. Lot's of good DL coaches with attitude.

(No, seriously, I agree with you - the Saints' season is over, the Vols aren't going to a bowl, and our bowl is this week. There will be nothing to gain, and recruiting time/opportunity to lose if he hasn't made some definitive statement by COB on Friday. If it extends past that point, I would say, pull the plug and move on to somebody who's interested in the job and not games/leverage.)

After the last coaching changes board season, ZeeDustin is well served to be vague.

tries to call timeouts to stop the clock after INTs, ... tried to hire Bill Clay, flew to Dallas the night before the SECCG to beg to get into the Cotton Bowl when he loses the game the next day,
All of these things happened 3 years ago, and 2 of them happened before he'd completed half of a an LSU season. I realize no one's expecting a grad student to run the multi-million=dollar corporation known as LSU football, but I assume a review of all of your decisions from 2005 will yield the stellar results you demand from Miles? All of these were serious errors in judgment, but no more than that. Contrast this with, say, Tepper or Bill Callahan, who simply have coaching methods that don't work in college football. There's a difference.

offered Rocky Duplesis, thought it better to run the ball with Justin Vincent than throw with JR and 3 stud NFL WRs against Auburn, took Scott out against Kentucky to protect Hester's feelings
This sounds an awful lot like "offered Karl Hankton, Tory Collins, Max Holmes and Jeffery Jack, thought it would be better to stay in press-man coverage against UGA even though David Greene was completing fade routes in his sleep that day, played Randall over Russell even though JR had way more talent and was clearly the future," etc. Do I even need to type the next sentence?

This doesn't do much to refute the notion that your hatred, and it is hatred, for Miles detracts from any credible criticism you might make about him and/or his coaching ability.

I didn't read that on Volnation
they want O bad! The fans that is
they noted how much O out recruited Fulmer ect.
For some reason Vol fans don't think LSU can pull him in...
Our fan bases are pretty thick headed.. We don't see why he would want to go to Tennessee, they don't see why he would want to come to LSU..
If the money is close he ends up at LSU because, his family doesn't want to move, and he actually like LSU..there is history there...
I think the chance to recruit brings him back to college

Coach O's agent is Sexton, & we all know what he's all bout: $$$$. It mite well come down to a bidding war with the Vols & is Coach O THAT good of a coach to get into a war over $$$ ? And a lot of the Saints' talk shows in N.O. are claiming that his days with the Saints are over.
Posted on 12/29/08 at 1:08 pm to SugarBeauxl
yeah, the guy was in the s.e.c. championship game last year and had a top 5 defense this year.

I'm really wondering if that is even an option(I know what Peyton said a few weeks ago). I'm thinking the Saints clean house on that side of the ball.

Cash, you know that part of the post, I was effing with you, a little. When O was first mentioned as an option, much of the early response was (and NOT as I expected, Yaw, yaw, COL Reb is cryin', etc.) "Why would he leave the NFL (unless it was a DC job)?" I used the certainty of a defensive staff shakeup at New Orleans, and the possibility of an entire housecleaning on the defensive side as an argument that it was possible. Compound that with the fact that, regardless of who his DC will be next year at New Orleans, the whole staff will be under the microscope, or on the hotseat if the Saints don't make the playoffs. While it appears the Saints would like to keep him, who knows how much of that is sincere and how much of that is posturing.
So, again, I think O's leverage is more with Tennessee than New Orleans, at least long term.
