if UT isn't really going after Herman and Herman's agent goes full on nuclear, he may be left with no BCS job and a scarlet letter that may prevent him from getting those jobs in the future (esp a top program). that's a HUGE risk for a little bit of leverage that would be useless

People are underestimating what this info would do to Herman if it comes out he wanted this leaked.

Serious question, do you honestly think Herman controls everything his agent does?

Doesn't mean it was his agent. They could've been in talks with LSU and UT and agreed to terms with LSU. It's possible UT could tell they were losing him and leaked the info desperately.

No, but really? You don't think Herman had a say in whether or not his agent told UT he was about to sign a deal with the possibility existing that UT would ESPN it the day before his final game?

I think:

-agreement between Herman and LSU is accurate

-Herman's agent, doing his job, passes the info along to Texas. Whether he was trying to drive the price up and light a fire under Texas or merely telling them that it's over (nothing wrong with either), he did not want or intend for this info to go public.

-Texas insiders freak out and the story obviously goes public

Maybe I'm wrong, but Tom Herman will be LSU's next coach. It's done, and Texas boosters are pissed and panicked and scrambling.

Wow you're dense. If you guys want to believe Herman's agent is above this type of shite go ahead.

I'll keep living in the real world.

Your real world that doesn't include any real life examples of the bs you are proposing.

This is not a standard negotiating tactic. This was underhanded and deceitful. There is a difference between playing both sides and purposefully jeopardizing an agreement looking for better offers. Especially when those offers would be coming from schools that do not have an opening yet.

The UT and LSU boosters in Houston are the likely "sauce" of the leak. No doubt, this is one giant pissing contest among and between our men and theirs in H-town. Somebody couldn't resist the temptation and a call or text set the leak in motion.

This isn't some minute detail. This was a bomb. While no im not naive enough to think he 100% controls his agent i'm pretty sure he controls whether or not a deal he has supposedly agreed to shows up on fricking ESPN.

This is where it's over to me. I don't think he wanted ESPN to roll with it the night before UH's final game.

Of course I think he did. That doesn't mean they wanted it tweeted by a booster.

Herman's agent went to UT to find out what their counter to LSU's offer was. UT's admin let it slip to a booster, or a group of them, that LSU was close to a deal and that they were considering their options as a result. The boosters got pissed at leaked it to the press.

Jesus this is not that complicated.

Maybe you should read my posts then. I never said the agent leaked it to ESPN.

That's the exact opposite of what you have been saying. You claimed the agent did it himself ( with ot without Herman's knowledge ) because that is SOP for negotiating contracts like these.

Why the confusion? It's the same BS as last year...It was a TAF member talking.

"There was a group meet with Herman today in Houston," a TAF member said Thursday. "This is moving in Herman's direction."

The contract in the works for Herman, 41, is for more than $6 million a year, according to the TAF members. He makes $3 million a year at Houston.

Christ....

This. It was his agent.

In reference to who gave the UT boosters the info.

quote:

I'm not saying he leaked the info to ESPN. I'm saying he told UT what was on the table from the LSU side. That info then made it's way to the boosters who then leaked the it because they were pissed.

quote:

How exactly do you people think the UT boosters found out about his supposed "agreement" with LSU if Herman's agent didn't tell them? There was no tweet from any LSU source until after the story from ESPN.

THIS !!

quote:

So, it's either UT or LSU that leaked it. LSU had something to lose by leaking it. UT didn't.
