It's really not that complicated.
Herman's agent leaking this stuff is a nuclear-level negotiation tactic bordering on insanity

I don't think he meant for it to get to the press. That was all on the boosters who lost their shite when they were faced with the possibility of losing him. I think his agent most definitely let them know what was going on but I can't imagine he wanted it go blow up like that.

If his agent didn't leak the info to get Texas to move on him instead of dragging this out, then his agent didn't do his job.
if he agent leaked that information at that time, and UT didn't bite, then Herman may not have a job at LSU afterwards and he's stuck at Houston with a huge black mark

I feel ya. Ultimately we all realize it was texas boosters who broke it to Chip Brown/ESPN but how'd that information get into their hands? The assumption that his agent told them what was going on feels correct, but whether it was a ploy to get them in action or to let them know he was going in another direction is where we're at now.
It's not that hard. UT has a weak admin and the boosters don't trust them to handle this. The agent contacts the administration, and that leaks to key boosters through connections they would obviously have. Then they go on the rampage.
I can't say this definitely happened, but it's plausible.

I agree. It doesn't make sense. I'm not sure I want him as coach of he directed his agent to leak the info the day before his team's final game to force UT's hand.
I think it's over. I think UT leaked it. I think he's probably enraged at having to answer the questions and at the distractions.

I'm not saying he leaked the info to ESPN. I'm saying he told UT what was on the table from the LSU side. That info then made it's way to the boosters who then leaked the it because they were pissed.
That is SOP from agents in negotiations.

You should not assume Herman "let" his agent do anything. At the end of the day, agents do what's best for themselves. Don't overlook the fact that good agents have multiple clients. Manipulating a situation that sends a client in one direction can result in a job opportunity for another client, or two other clients.

If Texas then took it to ESPN, I think Texas is dead to him.

Hornsdigest isn't LSU, so....

not when you've agreed to a deal with one school

But a booster took it to Hornsdigest

No client controls every action of their agent. The agent is most often told to do what it takes to get the best deal possible.
Most of the time, the client probably doesn't even want to know what tactics were used to get things done.

He is staying at Houston who will match any LSU offer and he will wait another year or 2 an so end up somewhere else.

It doesn't if LSU backs away and makes another run at Jimbo. For some schools, a leak like that is an instant deal-killer.

A handshake agreement is nothing more than a negotiating tool to further drive a bidding ware to agents. Thinking otherwise is crazy.

That may be one of the top 3 most retarded things I've ever read on this website.

I love the Bama fans coming on here. Saban would be cursing every single person out in a 10 mile radius of it had leaked to ESPN the day before his team's final game because of a booster. If it distracted his team from performing well.

To tell the world that you have agreed to terms on a deal but are still interested in hearing other offers? Are you really dumb enough to think that is normal? That doesn't help Herman in anyway and makes him and his agent look terrible in the public's perception.
