You obviously can’t please everyone, but I didn’t really notice a melt.

Hell no its not over. This is horrible on so many levels. We literally hired a senior citizen. His record against top 10 competition speaks for itself.

i think most that were melting are finally coming to their senses and realize this is a good hire. if you need outside perspective take a gander at the SEC board. the majority of sec fans are terrified over this hire. we finally got an old school X and O guy who had notre dame in the playoff hunt every year he was there and will now have LSU in the hunt every year he is here

the people that are pissed off wanted a young fiery coach like kiffins immature emotional arse who goes for it 5 times on 4th down in his own territory because he wants to beat saban so bad. LSU needed a hard nose veteran to get this program back on track and thats what they got. home run hire

Saban won a national championship at age 69. Age doesn’t matter if you’re good at your job.

At least we can say Kelly didn't lose to the coach we just fired.

My first reaction was negative because Kelly’s name really hadn’t been mentioned and it seemed like Woodward dangled a bag of money in front of a warm body with coaching experience at a big school. But I’m okay with the hire now after hearing from other posters.

I said last week that I hope LSU doesn’t hire another Arnsparger - good with X’s and O’s but not much interest in recruiting but that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Stop being such a crybaby. The best coach in the history of team sports is 10 years older than him. I'm sorry if that's too hard for you to understand

The 60 year olds that drifted here from the political board are going to keep melting non stop. I really wonder what drew them all specifically to this board when they barely ever posted sports before this. I guess they thought they'd have a big audience for their brilliance.

Why is Brian Kelly leaving for LSU?

Kelly's reported move from Notre Dame to LSU has to do with one thing: challenging for a national championship. More specifically, it has to do with improved recruiting. That may seem counter-intuitive considering Kelly has seven wins of 10 or more wins with the Fighting Irish, including five straight. They also have made the College Football Playoff twice, in 2018 and '20 and, before that, were a participant in the 2013 BCS championship game.

But the Fighting Irish were manhandled in each of those appearances, losing to Alabama (2012 and 2020) and Clemson (2018) by a combined score of 103-31 — an average of 24 points per game. They have not won the equivalent of a New Year's Day 6 bowl game since a 24-21 Cotton Bowl victory over Texas A&M on Jan. 1, 1994.

Moreover, Kelly is 1-8 against top-10 opponents since arriving at Notre Dame in 2010, and 3-10 against top-10 opponents.
