O isn't generally savvy enough to create smokescreens. For better or worse, he's generally pretty candid

I know I'm going to get DV'd for it, but it may be a diversity hire.

I'm pretty sure he runs a 2-gap base 3-4 defense, so I'm not sure why O would want to go after him unless he has realized that what he wants is just not a fit for today's game. You have to be much more flexible with your schemes with how today's spread offenses are.

There are better "diversity" candidates IMO. I am not sold on Freeman, but would rather him than Mason I think.

No to Mason!! There are better candidates out there right now who have coordinated successful defenses this year.

I think he runs a multiple front defense.

I get not being overjoyed but I think it's a safe hire.

I agree and he's a LB coach too. We need the LB position coached up.

Matt Moscona mentions Mason and this board goes crazy.

Matt just gave his opinion. It wasn’t based on sources

Freeman and Mason both check a lot. Freeman might not be interested in LSU who knows.

Well if you Hire Mason as DC/LB coach. Why not Make Corey Assistant DC (not CO) and CB coach. If you can't find a young Safeties coach, get Muschamp as Safeties Coach with an Assistant HC title.

If there is some support from some circles in the LSU football program (some recent former and current players), give him an Assistant DC title and have him assistant Coach Mason (if that is who it is) with game planning, etc and evaluate how he does.

If Mason comes here and does a great job with the Defense, I would think within 3 years a mid-level P5 program would give him another shot. Maybe then Corey Raymond could easily be moved up to DC.

For the Passing Game Coordinator, go young with someone who knows the modern spread passing game and how to coach QB's in that system. I think Callaway can fit that bill.
