re: Is Bama a great coaching job post Saban?

Bama suffered for years due to probation. The University has been for the last decade plus rebuilding the BRAND. The process began even before Saban came to Bama. UA distinguishes itself from other programs by the brand. There are only a dozen or so Football programs that "possess a brand."
Not being a homer, but it is a beautiful place. The facilities are top notch. Nick Saban has greatly enhanced the Brand because he understands and utilizes aspects of Total Quality Management in his leadership and is CEO of football.
He may stay, he may leave. Texas has a brand also. He will do well wherever he goes and IF he departs the University of Alabama, he leaves it in better shape than when he came.

Better question. What coach wants to go to the cluster over in Austin. Not Saban.
Bama fans are SOOOOO scared right now.

THIS. I think that's why Kirby Smart gets a crack at the job and trying to maintain what has been established. If he doesn't work, we can go big again.
My personal opinion is that Kirby would be named interim for the bowl game and UA folks will look hard behind the scenes gauging the interest of several big name coaches. If nothing comes out of that they'll name Kirby the permanent coach.

Bama needs another shula in their to hit the reset button on their expectations that have gotten so unrealistically high and THEN they can get their guy and they can appreciate him.

Terrible job because of the last bit.
Cowherd was talking about how the Bama job is suffocating...and he would easily go to progressive Austin and fans who have perspective and don't follow you around to restaurants and throw shite on your lawn if you lose.
Bama suffocates - when it has great coaches.
Imagine if you aren't the 3rd coming of Bryant/Saban...you'd be eaten alive.
The Herd had.
1. Texas
2. USC
3. Michigan
4. Ohio State
As all better jobs than Bama by far. Big cities have perspective and people who have real lives!!!

Bottom line is winning championships, and Bama dominates Texas there. Take away Bryant and Saban, and Bama still has as many titles as Texas. Texas may have more money and easier recruiting, but it hasn't resulted in making Texas a better program. Take away Royal, and Texas is lumped in with a whole lot of other schools with only one title.

i think, just like any place that has had a lot of success, you don't want to follow "the guy", you want to follow the guy that follows him.

There's no objective evidence to give any credence to this at all.

It was his opinion.
You can have a life - go out on the town in L.A. - go to the beach...but still king of football.
You aren't smothered in a town of Hollywood and the Lakers.
Just his opinion bro.
Maybe someone else likes small-town Southern fanaticism and irrational boobs who call Finebaum and poison trees.

Correct, but you can't say this in general, without looking at the perspective of a person who may want a college head football coach position. How many have this as a priority? Saban?

If their fans are like LSU fans then no. Unfortunantly Miles was hated by most and still hated by alot, not necause he has head scratching screw up, but because he is not Nick Saban.
If a new coach can get past that then yes ir would be a top job in the country. Unlimited resources, huge history which helps recruiting.

Sure it is.
They put everything they have into their football program. It's a very desirable job for a coach.

this is likely the right answer

We've seen it a million times. The pattern is that even a bad coach would be good for 10 wins a season for TWO years after the Coach leaves. After that a drop off is imminent if the Coach is not legitimately good.
The other adage is that you NEVER want to be the man who replace The Man. You want to be the guy who replaces the man who replaces The Man. Let somebody else absorb all the arrows, and let the expectations of the fans come back to Earth a little. The next Coach at Alabama will be a transitional figure.
Even if the next Coach at Alabama is a winner, a large percentage of the fan base will despise him simply because he is not Nick Saban. Every difference will be pointed to as a failing and all his achievements will be attributed to Saban. The vast majority of proven, established Coaches will stay the hell away.

Both of these things you can do from Tuscaloosa, just a short drive to Mobile for a night on the town and the beaches of Lower Alabama

What cluster exactly? Recruiting? No. Finances? No. Pretty sure he'll have the entire AD behind him if he is actually offered and subsequently accepts the position.

Of course it is, great stadium, top talent in the country to inherit, top facilities, huge fan base, instatnt rock star lifestyle that comes with the job, a chance to win a NC right away, millons of dollars....... I could go on and on

I don't think Cowherd does.
Most guys who come up the college football coaching ranks aren't looking to live the SoCal lifestyle. Or at least, they aren't really putting value on that over any other number of things, in deciding where they may want to coach.
It's the typical sort of silliness he likes to dwell and harp on that has no basis in the reality of any situation.
The thought that Saban would go to USC or Michigan right now is laughable. The fact that he went to LSU, Bama, and now maybe UTa makes complete sense.
