I hope Peterson from Boise State sits back and says, "LSU has way better athletes than I will ever see at Boise, and I want me some REAL BCS action"
Maybe I am dreaming, but maybe he is thinking that exact thing. No once at Boise, or anywhere, would blame him if he called his agent and asked him to inquire about the potential opening.
This is just once example of all the interest that is highly likely to be expressed behind the scenes. Maybe Alleva even found a way to "hint" this to Miles, to let Miles know 1)Your existing contract is not getting "upped", and 2) You can leave without worrying, because the interest level in replacing you here at LSU is tremendous.
Miles needs to take his dream job. I think he will. If he stays, I have learned to accept his quirkiness, but I think for himself, he needs to go to his dream job knowing LSU will be just fine without him.

Naw. Gerry was a good recruiter & did "Bring back the Magic" as he promised, but lost it the last 2 seasons. Still his '98 & '99 recruiting classes were great.

I have an in-law that is an IU grad and we plan to go to Bloomington at some point to catch a basketball game. We need to drop in at his restaurant and catch up with him.

Spurrier, but he's getting old now. Actually that may could work out. When LSU fans need to "Fire 'da Coach" within 4 years, he'll be really old & ready to retire.

If the new coach wins any sort of championship in the next four years, it will be tainted because it will have been Miles' players!

I'm just hoping Alleva and crew.....if necessary......make a good decision of who we hire as our next Head Coach.
If Miles leaves......and I think he's gone.....I wish he and UM the best and hope he turns that program around quickly.

Yes you'd think that. And it makes for a good read.
But is it the truth, or is it just fiction? I don't know, and I don't think anyone else here knows either.
I'm sure it's every LSU fans fantasy that if Les Miles leaves for Michigan, we can replace him with someone better. The problem is, reality is often stranger than fantasy.
Yes, quality, big name coaches out there should be drooling at the chance to swoop in and win a BCS title in their first year here.
The reality is, we may be screwed, blued, and tattooed if Les Miles leaves.
I see Hoke over there on the sidelines screaming at Michigan "Pick me! Pick me!" I don't see anyone, anywhere doing the same for LSU.
Yeah, we may get some good looks from some good coaches. We also may have to settle for someone less than Les.

Does it ever happen? Yes, but put together such a list, and you'll have to stretch your mind to do so.
Sounds like the NCAA equivalent of what Jim Caldwell stepped into in Indianapolis.

It's taken us several years to train Coach Les and we still have to do a bit of fine tuning. Why change when you're winning?

damn therocketscientist, i take back all of the things i've said about you. your posts have really been full of common sense lately. i want miles to stay because i think, overall, he's the epitomy of what a college football coach should be. yes, he's got his faults as all people and all coaches do. but if he takes his dream job at his alma matar, we should be in damn good shape. personally, i think miles would be leaving the program every bit as good as saban, if not better.
