First off, I just dont see him leaving a successful NFL job for a college job.

Second, we would have to wait for him to finish the playoffs...and thats gonna create quite a distraction for his team. This is not a Charlie Weis situation. This is the head coach. I dont know if he would be willing...

But seriously....how bad arse would the purple and gold suit be?

Jack is using this as a bargaining chip on an extension and a raise. He has been one of the lowest paid coaches in the NFL.

Coming into the season, he was on the hot seat. He made the controversial decision of cutting Leftwich and going with Garrard, and it has paid off. Koetter and Mike Shula QB coach have done wonders with Garrards improved mechanics. Garrard is the only QB in the NFL without a pick in 2007.

The right guy is in Jax...he is just the OC.

I'm not afraid for him to leave, but don't want to be another stepping stone. Just my opinion, but I'd like the 5-10 year coach. He does have ties here, so I wouldn't cry if he was hired.

Rocket, I am with you. I like JDR as the #1 guy on the board. We can make up the recruiting next year if it comes down to it. I like what he would bring to LSU. An intense hard nose defensive coach. I am aware of the Carl Smith issue, but I think that was a 1 year deal and JDR cut him loose after watching his act. I also agree with NO SABAN under any circumstance. I think he can attract recruits. All he needs to do is hire good assistants and coordinators. He has been around the coaching game long enough to make quality relationships with good candidates.

I liked him when he was a player. I liked him when he was an assistant coach with the Saints under Ditka. I was really struck by his charisma and style with his players during the HBO or NFL Network Training Camp Documentary that they did on the Jags before the 2006 season. He is a really quality guy that demands a lot from his players. I think we wait and get him.

I'd like a defensive minded head coach like JDR. Keep Crowten and let him handle the offense. Seems like a winning combo. I've wondered if he is just using this to get a better contract in Jax, but supposedly his wife really wants to come back to Louisiana. Gotta keep the little lady happy.

I agree. I mean, I'd love to see what he could be as a college coach. I'd be willing for him to experiment at LSU. Not everybody, but him I would.

I don't think he's even an experiment...he is a sure fire winner and he would mold as after the jags: a big, nasty team with a mean streak. That is what Saban tried to do and I think JDR would take it to the next level. I am down with Lombardi if he decides to wait for him. This recruiting class is not worth missing out on what could be the next Pete Carroll IMO.

Can anyone think of an NFL head coach (besides Saban) that left the NFL to coach a college program? I'm not talking about one that was fired from the NFL then took a college job.

Al Groh is correct. Also, long time ago Dan Devine to Notre Dame.

Hopefully you're right. I'd like to hear him in some interviews on his philosophy about every aspect of running a program...

I always agreed on just about everything Saban said(not that he always practiced it)about running a program....every detail from A-Z...I'd like to hear his vision/direction for the program. I guess we wouldn't be able to hear that until he got hired.

Carroll was fired. I can't think of an NFL coach who left for a college football program.

Then again, Jack Del Rio came within inches of doing it in 2004. I'd have to think the job is more attractive now then it was in 2004...

If JDR were to become the head coach, dude would probably pull in some stud linebackers. I like Ali and Derry (sp?), but I'm talking more along the lines of Brady James.

Imagine a 4-3 with three Patrick Willis's at linebacker. That is a JDR defense at LSU.
