what has Aranda shown you that makes you think he would be a good head coach?
I would say his body of work at Wisconsin should give him consideration. He took that defense, completely overhauled it, and turned it in to a top defense in the country.
To me that takes recruiting, brains, player support, admin support, being able to manage multiple personalities. Really the only thing missing is the PR and booster stuff.
I don't want to shite on O, but his previous HC work is less than impressive. Aranda has potential to be a great HC, if he wants to. I believe the way he operates would have him in a great position to succeed as a HC at LSU. It may be the uknown that scares people off, but i would rather the unkown at this, point. Maybe because i was just so tired of the same shite different day routine Leslie gave us.

I wouldn't be upset if we missed on Herman and Fisher and gave the job to Aranda. I'd probably want to try about 4-5 other candidates before going with O.

Honestly he is really smart and a great coordinator but seems like he has the personality of a dish rag.
Can you name one thing O has done since he took the reins that you would consider a bad decision or indicative of a bad head coach?

Aranda is going to be a rock star soon...oh and he can run the actual D.
Probably not ready for this job but given the choice I'd go with him

OLE MISS HC RECORD. Dude why are the love o supporters so defensive if anyone prefers someone over O? If you're judging O's HC abilities on a top 5 team that SHOULD be winning like we have and saying that makes him qualified you are incredibly short sighted. Mizzou and USM are his two games. Think about that.
You can weight wins at LSU. I don't disagree with that, but this team was gonna be great as soon any any coach took over. Miles ineptitude and finger in the offense brought us down. If Aranada would have been given the keys he would be in the exact same spot. I don't doubt it one bit. He's not ready for LSU just yet, but if someone is saying pick one or the other, I'll take Aranda until O actually does something impressive.

Yep.

So our view of him is limited to the past 3 weeks? That doesn't make much sense at all.
I'm glad alleva will be making the decision based on the entirety of their resume.

These people are just delusional. Should you consider his previous wins and any going forward when looking at his resume? Sure, but here's the deal: 1) hes only played USM and Mizzou. 2) if you consider these wins and any future wins you MUST look at his OVERALL body of work.
Unfortunately, that's where i lose interest in him quickly. Maybe it's because I've only been on here for a year, but it just amazes me how short/blind sided an evergrowing portion of our fanbase is. Pretty scary.

quote:if tom herman were on the sidelines right now and he rolled out two games just like the last two dominating performance on offense and defense everyone would be lining up to suck his dick not this '[yawn] [slow clap] nice job i suppose but literally ANY coach in the country not named les miles could do what you just did Tom. call me when you do something that impresses me.' bullshite.
but this team was gonna be great as soon any any coach took over.
If choosing between Aranda and O i would choose O every single time. I know that goes against the never O mantra but the guy has zero experience as a head coach. Choosing him over O because he seems smart and the only thing he needs to do is "a little PR and booster stuff" is laughably short sighted.

quote:i didn't say you were limited, i asked a question - if you want to dodge it that's fine. this thread's just a hypothetical between O and Aranda, i'm making the point that if Aranda had been appointed HC I don't see him making the moves that O has made. maybe some but not all. That's the whole point of the thread but you're in your "never O" mode so you're trying to make it about the entire search.

my view on the entire search has been if you can hire tom herman right now then do it and i'm not as sold on jimbo fisher. PJ fleck i don't really have an opinion on yet. As far as O goes i'm not shutting the door on him like you and some others are - i'm evaluating what he does on and off the field and so far he has done everything right. I suppose you agree since you dodged the question.

Somehow the last 5 years doesn't feel that successful. I wish Coach O (or any other coach) was in charge of LSU football in the last 5 years.
Last 5 years have a better win loss record than Saban's tenure at lsu.
Les Miles at lsu= 7th best win% in the history of the sec,#1 ooc win % in the history of the sec, # 1 win % in lsu history.
I dont care what you feel. FACTS prove miles was one of the most successful coach in sec and lsu history. Deal with it.

When Coach O ran a successful side of the ball? Its telling youd choose a dline coach over one of the best up and coming dc in cfb.

He's a great coordinator. But that doesn't guarantee success. Short sighted is hiring the next up and coming coordinator.

I agree to a degree. He has reversed what les was doing. That's exactly what most people would've done. I applaud him for that. And we did come out flat as hell against SMU.
My issue is, the next 5 games will not offer him the opportunity to show that he can run an entire program it will only show that he can lead a group of uber talented guys to some much needed wins...which is great.
He is tailor made yo be an interim coach. LIke, perfect for it.
My expectations of the HC are bigger than that.

Over a guy with a losing HC record? Sure!

Lol no. I don't want either one of them to be HC TBH.
But given the question...
0-0 hc record > 10-25 hc record
In theory anyway. But I pray we don't have to make either choice.

Are you being serious? Proving you can run a side of the ball is better than being a dline coach. Please show me all these position coaches getting head coaching gigs.
