If you're an AD, do you eliminate Sexton clients out of hand?

He clearly negotiates in bad faith as a matter of practice.

You want the long or short answer?

I think Sexton is an agent who recognizes to whom his duty lies.

I picture Sexton kicked back chewing on a fat Cuban cigar while he negotiates.

There's no way I'd negotiate with him. He's an agent and fricking people on behalf of his client is his job, but the way he seems to go about it with playing multiple schools off each other and things just seems so slimy.

How do you know he negotiates in bad faith?

He gets HIS client paid and DGAF about anything else. It's as simple as that. If Alleva isn't smart enough to know when to call bluffs or deal with leaks, he's clearly not ready for a top tier AD gig.

I do believe Sexton has a fiduciary duty to his clients first and foremost

Good luck with a HS coach then because he pretty much owns every college coach

Sexton represents some top talent. You shouldn't dismiss them right off because they have a very good agent.

You should, however, go into negotiations well prepared with backup options so you're always ready to walk away if you have to. It's not like Sexton's methods are unknown. Only a fool would zero in on a Sexton client without a strong 2nd choice already in some level of contact.

It's not Sexton's fault that he has a huge negotiating advantage. He's the boss and is answerable to no one but his client.

100% spot on. and this is just what Alleva has done. the ONLY problem with this Fisher negotiation is that LSU wants him to be their coach and he doesn't really want LSU. we need to move on and hopefully have.

people don't want to hear this because they have their mind made up that it's GOT TO BE Fisher or Herman. that is no way to conduct a coaching search unless you have some serious feedback from reputable people that a coach actually wants the job.

I believe Alleva has done his due diligence and has a number of qualified coaches to negotiate with. if you think about it, that's all he can do. timing and lady luck is what's needed now. I believe the coach O "phenonum" sp came out of nowhere and was totally unexpected.

I hope you're not that stupid. If Sexton asks for $20million/year and someone is willing to give it to him, he's done his job correctly. His loyalty isn't to the school, it's to the coach he represents.

If he fails to get Fisher a raise 2 years in a row we may not have to worry about him anymore.
