re: IF O can keep Aranda and hire a top notch OC
Posted by Patty the Tiger on 11/26/16 at 12:15 pm to Tiger in NY
He'll never out-recruit Saban.
Beating Bama is going to be about out-coaching Bama and out-adjusting to Bama.
The only thing I'd trust Coach O to do better than Saban is make a gumbo.

I would have taken a too-early flier on Fleck, or even promoted Aranda, before I went for Coach O.

1. How many coaches that Alleva hired in any of the major sports at any of Alleva's stops are considered good coaches?
2. How many times in Coach O's coaching history for any team at any level has he beat a team with equal talent to his own?
The first speaks volumes about Alleva's decision making. The second speaks volumes about Coach O's X's and O's coaching ability. Two major trends need to be bucked for this hire to work out.

Taking the under and betting my life savings on it.

Name 1 time in Coach O's coaching history at any level for any team that he beat a team with equal talent to the team he was coaching.
I'll wait.

recipe or it didn't happen.
re: Herman with what staff . Coach O with what staff

I want Coach O to get a shot at Rutgers.
re: whos better: Orgeron or Saban?
Posted by Patty the Tiger on 11/25/16 at 9:10 pm to MastrShake
If Les Miles and Ed Orgeron were coaching two teams of identical talent and played each other, how much would either lose to Alabama by the next season?

al-Baghdadi.
re: Orgeron's best win...

If Les Miles and Mama Boucher had a baby, you have Coach O.
re: If you're an AD, do you eliminate Sexton clients out of hand?
Posted by Patty the Tiger on 11/25/16 at 8:35 pm to Jim Rockford
I think Sexton is an agent who recognizes to whom his duty lies.

How did he get that talent? The players just showed up one day?
re: LSU admin handling of the coaching search

What did we expect though? Alleva has never hired a good coach in a major sport anywhere he's been.

Where has Herman failed as a coach?
Your answer is why many want him.

re: PJ Fleck is who LSU needs to get, over Herman even

quote:
First time I am seeing a PJ Fleck team and this is 1000 times better that Herman team.
1. Physical
2. Power running
3. Not finesse offense
4. They play solid Defense
LSU is missing the boat on this guy.
I'm a Steelers fan as well as an LSU fan.
Both fanbases suffer from this strange obsession with ground and pound for the sake of ground and pound.
I don't give a damn if we run a double reverse pass every play as long as we win.
Fleck does what he does well, but saying "LSU needs him because he has a power running game and no finesse" is shortsighted.
Do what works. If one game calls for finesse, finesse. If one game calls for power, be power. I want a coach who adapts to the opponent and the situation. Don't be Les. Don't be Cowher.
re: Fox Sports - Why Tom Herman is no sure thing at his next coaching stop

He has succeeded at every stop he's been at.
He's not perfect, but no coach -- ever -- has been.

Herman built Houston into a team where they can be a double digit favorite.

Hot take: no coach has ever been a "sure thing."
Heard on the radio earlier some guy talking about how he's seen this before -- hot commodity at a smaller school moves to a P5 and flames out. "Time and time again."
Right. Because that's how it f'ing works. Some work out, some don't. You don't hire a guy you know will get you 8-4 every year just because you're afraid of the guy who has an equal chance of going 12-0 as he does of going 4-8.

re: If we end up with orgeron
Posted by Patty the Tiger on 11/25/16 at 6:38 pm to MC5601
Right. The thing I don't get about the "keep Coach O" folks (the real ones, not the trolls) is..it's a lateral hire. You don't fire Les to hire O. They're the same Coach just with different sized clothing. Les is the best version of Coach O.
So if we hire Coach O, firing Les likely did nothing to improve the team. Which means the AD miscalculated and screwed up.
