That says more about the coaching that followed Tenuta than it does about Tenuta.
In fact, it says absolutely nothing about Tenuta unless you are saying that GT is so extremely talented that anyone could coach that defense. We know that's not the case.

You have to attack when you're on defense. That's the kind of D Tenuta brings. VK, Chavis schemes do not attack. They read and react.

what does this mean? His defenses at GT were very good, no? They were not that talented, lots of pasty white dudes running around.
Now there 2008 d is comparable statistically when they have a mega ball control offense keeping them off the field the whole game so that means he must not be that good?

If you are choosing a zone scheme over a a man to man blitz heavy scheme like Saban/Muschamp(while at LSU), and Tenuta run then you are an idiot.

I think we need to be able to do both.
I would LOVE to have a defense that could zone up effectively. That gives you all kinds of options from an attack standpoint.
We don't need a one dimensional approach. We definitely do not want an agressive style without very good technique being taught in the defensive backfield (which Koening brings to the table)
Again, effectiveness > agressiveness.
Both Chavis and Koening have proven that they put together an effective defense.

I've never felt like Tenuta's scheme was man to man blitz heavy, but more blitz from everywhere and play zone behind it.

Dude, Saban plays a zone a good bit.
Sure, he'll bring pressure and man up (usually on 3rd down) but they play zone a good amount behind much of their pressure as well.
Almost everything underneath is zoned. And they play Cover 2 and Cover 3 a good amount.
You are coming across as a very simple minded person. If you think that we can man up on every play and be effective, then you are just wrong.
I want a DC who can coach a solid, fundamental defensive backfield (this means man and zone). And, I would love to have someone who can dial up the blitz when it's called for.
I don't want a DC who is one dimensional or who relies on blitzing to stop a defense. That's a recipe for disaster.

I want a DC who realizes on 3 and 8 you've got to get after the QB and Saban did that. Ever since we've had this read and react shite we've given up more long 3rd downs then I can count.

Saban's d's at LSU gave up plenty of 3rd and longs with their soft middle.
It's not as cut and dry as you make it out. If man to man and heavy blitz worked that easily everyone would do it.

I'm not saying line up and play man to man, and send all 3 Lb's every play. I'm saying Rushing 3 men or 4 men all the time while playing soft zone is fricking retarded.

What about the man to man we played on 3rd and long against Georgia and gave up the big play? Blitzing on that down was downright idiotic.
Our problems have more to do with not being able to play zone effectively, then our playing zone.
EVERY single team plays zone. Not necessarily on every play, but you HAVE to be able to do it.
You assume that Saban's defense plays man to man when they bring pressure. This is not always the case. Obviously, it's true sometimes, but his defensive schemes usually mix zone and man in the defensive backfield. Often, it looks like his CBs are in man coverage when they are really in cover 3.
Saban is a great defensive coach because his defenses are complex and "multiple". To refer to it as a "blitz happy" or "man to man" pressure defense is ignorant.
Our defense was totally ineffective when we played zone...and partially ineffective when we played man. This is coaching. Our coaching was ineffective.
