He would have been in my 2nd tier based solely on age, only one I was giving an age exemption to was Saban. I thought we needed someone young and up and coming with good values like Napier or Aranda to rebuild the culture. But after watching some press footage of him I can see right away he's a no BS and take control type guy like a Saban. We are gonna be fine
The youngest I know is Dabo and he's 52.

Woodward knew Kelly was on the table. Mutual interest between Riley and LSU but we sniffed him out early enough to close Kelly. Great work by Woodward and their agent.

They have had top 5 classes in the past.

People like you are ignorant. This board feeds off posters like TBL, VOL, etc. if you are so locked into their word being the gospel then you are the one setting yourself up for disappointment. So they got it wrong, who cares. It is exactly the reason I come here to get opinions on what might happen and if we can get some better insight then wonderful. It makes it fun and in the end we all hope it leads to success from our beloved Tigers. People on here that ridicule these guys have an a complex.
A lot of what one reads today on the internet is not reality, including what was posted on TD re: the LSU HC search. To me, what we read on TD about the job search was a lot like professional wresting, is it real or not?? When I was young I watched professional wrestling from Portland, OR on Friday nights. I believed it was real. Then when i was 11 or 12 years old, my dad took me to a live professional wrestling event in a very small venue. Cowboy Frankie Lane (the penultimate good guy) was in a match w/ one of the Von Steiger brothers (both were VERY bad guys). Of course, Von Steiger cheated and the brothers teamed up on the Cowboy, 2 against 1. They placed him supine on the mat and got outside the ring. Then they each took a leg and forcefully pulled his legs, ramming his groin into the ring post many times. When I later saw Cowboy Frankie Lane get up and walk away from the biting, I realized for the first time that professional wrestling was, fake, not real. It was just entertainment. Folks, what we experienced on TD and the media (both the "real"media and social media) what was reported on the job search was not real. It was fake, just like professional wrestling.....it was entertainment. It was fun to read and speculate on what was reported, but it wasn't real. I enjoyed it for what it was, entertainment, and went on w/ what's really important, life. Sure, I was I surprised when CBK got the job, but i wasn't hurt, insulted or mad. Frankly, I'm surprised by how many posters here still have hurt feeling on getting filled by what they'd read on TD about the job search.

I would have had him right behind Riley the whole time. But, that quickly would have shifted once we learned what a chickenshit Riley is. Incredible job by Woodward. We got the best guy for us out there. Deep down the haters know it too.
I remember hearing Kelly's name and almost immediately discounted it, thinking "who leaves Notre Dame?"
I would have been fine with Riley, but will admit I was thinking the same thing: "Who leaves Oklahoma?"
I think Kelly is a more complete coach. Riley still has some things to learn about running a whole program, as his teams have been horrible on defense compared to the national playoff competition he has faced. Additionally, I was concerned about how soft/weak this year's Oklahoma team was. Even as they were winning, the national press was very skeptical as well, dropping them in the rankings. They were the epitome of being a fraud.
Riley may end up being having the bigger upside if, and only if, he does some soul-searching about how to toughen up his teams for national competition. His deciding to not challenge the SEC doesn't bode well for that happening.
(Yes, CBK got destroyed in CFP games as well, but they were never playing on the same talent level as Alabama, Clemson, or even Oklahoma. That should change at LSU.)

This myth that ND couldn't get over the CFP hump because of talent needs to stop
Myth ? LOL
For that to be a myth, you would be saying the difference in admission standards between Notre Dame and LSU have ZERO impact on the level of athlete available to the universities athletic dept. By simple extrapolation, if only 20% of the population could qualify for entrance to ND you are eliminating 80% of the athletes in any given year.
Is that what you are saying ?

I didn’t say zero impact. The impact is overstated. The freshman football players are not reflective of the university’s freshman class. Most of them would have no chance of being admitted absent football. ND’a freshman classes average ~1400-1500 SAT. That converts to ACT of 31-34. FOOTBALL freshmen at ND average about 1030. That converts to an ACT of 20.
ND’s academic rigor for students is a factor, for sure, and all of this makes a difference. The difference is overstated, in my opinion.
