My question is when they bring D recruits in are the going to show them their "big board" of priorities with a heading "Nielsen Ratings"?

I don't understand the S coach either unless, like other(s) said, he's an ace recruiter.

Do we anticipate Nielsen, if he ends up being the DC, being DL coach too? Instead of a S coach is there an ace recruiter who is only a DL coach in name only? If so, anyone have names for that?

Orgeron:

quote:

“We’re still looking for the best fit for a defensive coordinator. We still have three spots to fill on defense. I’m looking to fill the defensive coordinator spot first, then we have a safeties coach and a linebackers or defensive line coach, depending on what the coordinator will coach himself.”

Why is he insulting Raymond and Russ Callaway like this? Why?

LeRon just could beat that creatin addiction.

Why do you think it is insulting? Why? Just voicing your wishes and dislike for CEO is all that is.

But the fact remains we went from top-25 pass defenders prior to splitting the DB coaching duties (2018 season) to not even sniffing the top-25 in 2018 and 2019. Pelini just exacerbated it.

Empirical evidence says the model doesn't work. There are other variables of course. But the biggest think I'd point to is that our DL (a DBs best friend) and pass rush was worse in those years pre-split. And communication/assignment errors definitely increased post-split.

To me, the model simply doesn't work, at lease in college where turnover and "FNGs" are always an issue, every year.

The model of a safeties and corners coach doesn't work even though every other top cfb team splits it? Only Georgia has one DB coach and Kirby is a DB coach himself. Pass d also wasn't good under Steele when Raymond had the whole room. That was probably in protest of Busch being hired 3-4 years later.

Nielsen isn't going to leave the Saints to be a Co- DC that's for sure.

He will either be the man or not.

Far too many opportunities in the NFL right now.

The level of blind worship some of our fans bestow on Raymond is truly bizarre.

Well, we were 3rd worst in all of CFB in 2020 in giving up long pass plays.

111 in 2019, 63rd in 2018 (post split)

29 in 2017, 25th in 2016, 14th in 2015 (pre-split)

So either the model doesn't work, doesn't work for us (with Raymond on staff), or Busch was just that bad. That's a big step down with a steady decline. Is a bad safeties coach an explanation for that with the same DB coach (and DC for most of it)? Can a S coach be THAT bad to bring the whole pass defense down or would the model have more of an effect?

I really don't care what anyone else does. If it doesn't work for LSU I care. Utah does split it's DE's and DT coaches (ironically, pointing to the post above) and they have a very good defense. Doesn't mean everybody should.

Yep, agreed. And I think Raymond deserves some criticism for this year. CBs weren't really displaying great technique and performance themselves. Which was/is part of the problem. And I'm allowing for that in a split role CCR just might be the issue. But the big step down doesn't lend itself to it.
