tell them no thanks unless they joined a conference. I think this is a big deal. in conference you can play for a championshiop every year -maybe 2 if you have divisions.
this is worth something - you can't play for the NC every year.
probably only saban or meyer would have the clout. But if I am ND, I want one of those 2 guys. they must have a proven program builder, not just a good coach.

damn - I knew there was something I had forgotten.
didn't make out my demand list for ND when they come ask me to be head coach.
maybe I need to make a list.
I am so busy, I forget stuff like this.

hell ya I would take the nd job. Plenty of money probably the biggest payday in college football and get a a big contract extension. So when they fire me they are forced to pay me a lot of money to let me go.

I wouldn't care about that if I was going to be head coach. The bcs wants them in there. That is a bonus for the guy who finally gets that team a one loss season or better. Some coaches are smart enough to just turn that job down for obvious reasons. Some peeps don't need that much more stress. There is enough pressure and stress at any of the major schools.

Since ND can make their own schedule basically you can.

I would ask that they lower their entrance requirements for recruits. That would be my only concern.

So you want to be Lou Holtz?

It was sort of a rhetorical question. Holtz got admission standards lowered to get Rice, Brooks, Bettis, Waters, and others in ND.

No way. It is much easier for ND to get into the BCS bowls being an independent. They can write their own schedule with as many cupcakes as they want and stroll into a great bowl game. Then they don't have to split the profits with anyone, AFAIK. The majority of our funds gets split 13 ways.

quote:This. ND would be CRAZY to give up the sweet deal they have. In a conference they would have to split all of their bowl payouts. Plus they have their OWN TV deal w/ NBC that they take home by themselves. They only have to be half as good as other schools to make the BCS. (See 2006 Sugar Bowl)
