I'm still on the Jimmy Lake train, although I doubt it ever leaves the station.

I been wanting Jimmy Lake at Bama. But, he may take the USC job. Lincoln would likely have to adjust his offense for him to take that job.

I can’t imagine Jen Cohen hiring Jimmy Lake again even to mow the grass on the practice fields let alone coach football. Excellent coach though just not going to happen at USC given the context

Agreed here. Jimmy ain’t working for Jen Cohen after running him out of Seattle mid-season.

Blake Baker

He is absolutely on the list. So should Minter.

There are a number of candidates for LSU to pick from this year. Now it is up to Kelly to select the one that will assemble the best staff.

BK isn’t stupid he knows he risks more political capital keeping House than he would moving him.

I would be interested in seeing what people think of Arnett. He was a disaster of a head coach, but his defenses paired well with Leach’s air raid offense. I think that LSU will need a defense that pairs well with an offense that moves the ball down the field quickly and puts the defense out on the field often.

Haha disaster of a head coach. Do you think he actually had a chance, nobody in that situation would succeed.

Wrong. They had a well-established offense with a TON of returning experience. All Arnett had to do was hire a good Air Raid guy as OC to keep it going. They could have had a decent season if he hadn’t been so stupid.

When Kelly became head coach, I was hoping he would keep Baker.

It would be good to see him return.

That is what pissed Baker off. He isn't going to take the DC after what BK did to him and he hired House and things are now going south. No way Baker will want to take a chance. House did very well at University of Kentucky when he was the DC 3 or 4 years ago.

This is such a stupid argument, but you’re a proven troll, so...

Coaches aren’t the pussies you make them out to be and most coordinators and position coaches are NOT retained when a new head coach comes in. They all know the score. If they all got butthurt because a new head coach brings in his own guys, they wouldn’t last very long in big boy football. Case in point, Denbrock was demoted by Kelly at Cincinatti and left the next season. Where is he today? It’s a fricking business and everyone knows it.

As for Baker, we weren’t going to have an LB coach on staff and Kelly brought in a guy he knew to handle Safeties, as most new head coach hires do. It’s not as if you guys hired him to be your DC out of the gate, either. It’s great that it worked out for you that he had experience and could be promoted. He’s obviously done very well, but he wasn’t being sought out as a DC before this season for a reason. He was fired from his previous gig at Miami for running an atrocious defense.

Now I think Baker was really just the fall guy for Manny Diaz and his defense in 2020. I said that when he was hired here for the LB job. But because of that, no other P5 school was going to consider him for a DC role. He was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, but typically a coach would have to drop down to a G5 to prove themselves again as a DC.

Baker might not be interested in the LSU DC job if offered, but you are insane if you think it’s because he’s butthurt that Kelly didn’t keep him last season. That’s just not how experienced P5 coaches work.

I think Baker will be a little down the list, so you probably don’t have anything to worry about.

He isn't taking the DC job if offered at LSU under BK. Plus Kelly is now ready to fire House after just 2 years. Why would Baker go there to be in same situation? He isn't going to risk losing his job if he had one that House is going through after a below average season like some other DCs are going through right now. That is why Baker will stay at Mizzou and is making the right choice to stay and he will get a pay raise after the season.
