_______________
Jack Del Rio might also be wishful thinking, but I think he would be a homerun type of hire.
______________

Seriously? Do you know anything about him other than he has Louisiana connections? Check him out:

(1) He has never coached in college --- how many pro coaches with no college experience have ever succeeded in college? Can he recruit? Does he know how to relate to college kids (see Weis, Charlie)?
(2) In 6 seasons (not counting this season, which is in progress) he has never won his division and only made the playoffs twice, only winning one game.
(3) His record in those 6 seasons is 48-44 (7-6 this year on top of that). What would LSU fans do if we had that record over 6 years (I can tell you, I was here for Curley. It ain't pretty).
(4) In those 6 seasons he has 2 losing seasons (both 5-11) and one 8-8 season. I'll give him a pass on the first season, there's usually a reason for a coaching change. But last year --- his 6th season on the job --- he went 5-11. LSU fans are going nuts over a 9-3 season.

The love affair with this guy among LSU fans is amazing. Someone really needs to explain this to me.

Keep in mind, Jerry wants to be the leadership face of the Cowboys. He doesn't want competition from a high profile personality. He didn't like it when Parcels was there. Les fits his mold -- Shannaghan, Cowher, Gruden are overbearing personalities. Les isn't.

exactly....I lived near J-ville for the vast majority of his regime there... There is absolutely nothing special abuot the guy. We see what happened to his defense once Mike Smith left for Atlanta. I do not understand the fascination at all.

Jack Del Rio coaches the worst and least attractive franchise in the NFL and has done a fine job being competitive under adverse circumstances. He is the man if Les leaves.

First, I think Jason Garrett is still in line to be the next coach and that's why Phillips wasn't fired last year because Jones didn't think JG was ready to take over.

Second, Why in the world would JJ want to hire Les? College coaches in the NFL aren't a popular idea anymore. The trend is to hire young coaches like Tampa Bay, Indy, Detroit, St. Louis and Pittsburg have done. Les isn't a NFL coach and his stock isn't exactly soaring right now.

Maybe just maybe they do respect him as a person and he communicates around the tv much much better than when he is picking and choosing words in the media? I mean when hes pissed off hes pretty clear to understand just ask Tracy Wolfson

He was hired to coach. How well did your coach communicate with the media and you?

Exactly. I dont think hes an amazing gameday coach but still people act like hes devoid of any qualities that would make him a friend or coach. Maybe they put out those statements because they geniuinely like Miles, think hes a decent coach, and want him to succeed.

No one knows the answer to these questions. I'll say it again for the cheap seats --- no coach who has spent his entire career in the pros has made a successful transition to being a college head coach. If you can think of one list him.

This was posted yesterday on footballcoachscoop.com... TIFWIW

Dallas Cowboys:
Our sources tell us that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones does not plan on retaining current Head Coach Wade Phillips after the 2010 season. According to our
sources Jones interest in is Les Miles (LSU Head Coach) and Bob Stoops (Oklahoma Head Coach). On December 3, FootballCoachScoop sources
confirmed that Owner Jerry Jones still hadn't picked up the option for next season on Phillips who is in the final year of a three-year contract. We have
confirmed that Jones does have interest in LSU Head Coach Les Miles (November 12). It is expected that Phillips will not be back in Dallas unless they
make it to the Super Bowl, according to our sources.

Young guys with NFL ties as a former Pro Bowler with 10+ years in the league who were also Ray Lewis' LB coach on one of the best defenses of all-time that won a Super Bowl and brought a team to the playoffs multiple times as NFL head coach could never recruit worth a shite. Who are we kidding?!!!

You do realize what Saban's entire recruiting pitch was before he won a national championship, right? Kids would never fall for the "I can get you to the NFL" line of bs, they want a coach who has spent his career at North Dakota State paying his dues.

I'm sure Pete Carroll was successful this decade because of his last college experience as OC of Pacific in 1984 not any of that silly NFL bullshite.

If you are theorizing, why wouldnt Jones go after Saban? Especially if they win at the NC. He would be the first coach to win a NC at two different schools, and an ego they taunts him that he failed at Miami. Saban would probably jump at a chance to prove to himself he can coach at the NFL level.

Okay, let's play the game.

If it DOES happen:

Contrary to you delusional dreamers, it's the height of wistful and wishful thinking to believe Saban, Cowher, Gruden etc. would come to LSU.

Realistic answer?

Tommy Tuberville.

And it would be a good hire.

He can coach his arse off.
