If it was Kiffin, wouldn’t he have a players meeting first?

I haven’t really seen anyone bring this up. There have been no rumors of a team meeting, or info leaking out about one coming up. I know it’s not a necessity, but usually coach’s inform the players before it becomes official.

IF (BIG if) the rumors of him leaving are true, I'd imagine the meeting with the AD will be him trying to coach through the rest of the season. When the AD inevitably tells him no, maybe then?

Would be dumb to tell his players good bye before possibly getting the extension or NIL terms he wanted at a meeting this morning. I suspect there will be a notice given by some side this morning and we will hear about the results at some point, after which Lane can say goodbye to everyone he wants.

Why can’t he just inform Ole Miss of his decision and then finish the season?

That seems more plausible. It just feels if he were definitely leaving now, and there was no consideration about coaching OM any further, we would have heard about an imminent players meeting.

Multitude of reasons, in my opinion. OM isn’t going to let him continue to coach their team when he’s leaving to coach one of their biggest rivals. The longer he stays the bigger the possibility he tries to convince his biggest players to transfer. Lastly, if he really is taking the job NOW at LSU, he’s doing it so he can help keep the LSU roster/signing class intact and get to work on the portal.

There’s no way they want him on their sidelines, if he’s Coaching somewhere else next year.

True. Good points. I just feel like college football is so much different now days, it’s all based on one season at a time.

Nobody is really in control anymore now that players can leave when they want, go wherever they want. It’s all about this season, let’s worry about next season next year.

I do understand the recruiting from the inside though. That’s diabolical.

A player's meeting before a HC's leaving is an outdated fashion.
NO more now.
Players are going to get the info on social media.

Once Kiffin informs them, he becomes the enemy. No chance do they allow him to finish the season. This isn’t a feel good type thing for a storied program such as OM. They’ll want him out immediately. Otherwise the fan base goes after the AD to be removed. Kiffin would get booed out of the stadium and probably have things thrown at him.
