I don't think Gus will take the Arkansas job, but lots of people are saying that he might. If he does, who does Auburn try to hire?

He'd probably do well at Auburn. What a crazy world we live in.

a whole lot of AU people would disagree with you here.

Jimbo would likely get the first call. From there, I'm not sure, but AU people I've asked this question to seem adamant that Bobby P won't be the next call.

Bobby Petrino will not be targeted by Auburn.

Jimbo, Kelly (if UCLA or Florida don't get him) would be the biggest targets, but I'm sure we would end up with one of the smaller, yet to really prove themselves coaches. A Frost or Clark type

They go after who all is left after UT/uf signs someone. Timing would matter, and wouldnt want auburn in the mix until after UT got someone. Just no need for the salary war bump, and timing with the early period. I think UT and uf have been keeping off each others arse well so far which was my concern. Auburn would be a thorn for sure trying to throw money around in last minute scramble.

All the usual suspects....norvel/brohm/frost/etc. Jimbo if he really wants out. Close to his kids, so that would be big for both.

Personally from an outsider looking in I would look at keeping Steele if he has a great game this wknd. If he does I would hope UT brings him in to talk too.

Then theres the "who does sexton have left?" factor.

Kelly will have signed with either UCLA or UF by then. If Jimbo is leaving FSU, he'll likely be gone by then, too.

If A&M doesn't get Jimbo, I hope we go get Fuente.

Jimbo isn't leaving FSU for Auburn. I could at least see the ATM move, but AU is laughable.

Just curious, why would Jimbo Fisher going to Auburn be "laughable"?

First question is who would be making the hire? Isn't Auburn's AD basically a lame duck just waiting to be officially replaced? Would Auburn allow Jacobs to make the hire even though he won't be the AD during the new coach's first season? Do they rush and hire a new AD to then make the football hire? Would any big time coach want to go to Auburn without knowing who his boss will be?

I just can't see Malzahn voluntarily going to Arkansas. Yes it's home, but basically it would be the same system the SECW is already somewhat familiar with, only with less overall talent? If he leaves though, it puts AU in a tough spot.

Sounds about right: a classless arse for a bunch of classless asses. Perfect fit for Auburn.

Not all of them, but some important Auburn powers that be actually go to Church every Sunday. I'd be truly shocked if AU hired Petrino as their HC.

Wasn't Petrino's interview with Auburn in 2012 pretty much a trainwreck?

I'll need an Auburn poster to fill in the gaps, but supposedly they gave him a phone interview as a courtesy. Apparently he proceeded to beg for an in-person interview and offered to pay his own expenses down there and bring his wife as well. The rumor is that it went off the rails when they started asking him about the events that led to his ouster at Arkansas and he either got defensive or evasive and they hung up on him.

Paging Auburn posters to clarify or lend additional color commentary on the above.
