Our first choice is Riley and if he says no, then we move onto Kiffin as a backup plan who will accept

That seems like the best plan to me.

Better hope that Kiffin doesn’t make the playoffs

you may be right.

when asked about the coaching search this weekend, i responded with as long as the new coach is capable of handling one side of the ball, i am happy. do not care if it is a defensive coach or an offensive coach. just be an expert on "your side" of the ball.

I don't understand the love for Riley. Yes, he wins a lot of games at Oklahoma and consistently makes the playoffs out of the Big 12. Until recently though there wasn't a lot of parity in the Big 12, it was Oklahoma and the rest, and that weakness showed every time OU went to the CFB playoffs.

2018 lost to Georgia 54-48 (OT)
2019 lost to Alabama 45-34
2020 lost to LSU 63-28 (could have been 100 by LSU)

3 Playoff appearances and 3 losses.

Hell, the only bowl game he has won at Oklahoma is the Cotton Bowl last year against Florida.

The expectation is that he could field a comparable offense and a better defense at LSU. Look at the scores you posted...even a marginally better defense wins those games except for 2019.

It's a fair assumption

Kiffin scored 31pts at home against LSU.

Florida scored 42pt while also throwing 4 interceptions. Kiffin's offense on Saturday was no mind blowing coaching feat.

Or, maybe he took his foot off the gas so he doesn’t look like an a-hole

It's pretty much common knowledge Lane badly wants the job.

....and who he'd love to use it to stick it to- something he can't do at Ole Miss- but could do here.

He had to go for it on 4th down how many times--- and still only scored 31pts.

What Kiffin has done since leaving Alabama is impressive. I’d rather take the chance with him than Riley.

He got up 31-7 and decided to just milk the clock instead of rubbing it in more. Believe it or not, lane may be immature but he has a little bit of class.

Lane came off as extremely impressive Saturday. I liked how he set up his running backs for success and controlled game

I have a feeling Woodward is not feeling rushed at all and he shouldn’t. I know we’re itching for updates, but I have a feeling he has his number one guy and even if he gets a “no” answer right now, I really suspect he’s going to take several weeks a take more than one bite at the apple.

Just my thoughts but I don’t see him panicking like Alleva did, then trying to put lipstick on the pig hire.

It's also a fair assumption that he is pretty good against in-conference foes who don't have the resources an OU has and once he competes with more elite programs his weaknesses are exposed.

Not what I want LSU to gamble on.
