Here's some recruiting rankings from Rivals.com since he took over. You tell me if he's ever had, without question, the most talented team in the SEC:

Holy frick you want to talk about underachieving? Kiffin lost 5 games with USC this year. PRESEASON #1 and lost 5 fricking games. Nothing you say from here on out will be taken seriously.
Georgia went 10-3 in 2008. They were preseason #2.

That's a whole lot of talent at a bunch of UGA's competition. And to be honest, you are the first person I've ever heard claim that UGA has ever, in the last 30 years, had more talent than any other SEC team.
Perhaps I'm the only guy who happened to look up how many guys they've put in the league.

which proves my point. UGA hasn't had more talent than everyone in the SEC. There have been several teams that have had as much if not more talent. That doesn't even consider the years that teams like Tenn, Auburn, USCe, had top 10 classes. Some times, one class puts your team way ahead of the pack. Much like LSU's 2001 recruiting class that stacked the team and made up for 2002's disappointing recruiting year. 2003 and 2004 did the same thing, made up for LSU's 2005 class.
a ton of SEC have had top 25 classes for the entire time that Richt has been at UGA. in fact, there has never been a year since Richt has been at UGA that at least 6 SEC teams were ranked in the top 25.

I called their record before that season, btw.
I was already well aware of Mark Richt's uncanny gift for parlaying a roster full of NFL talent into a 3 loss season. He's the master.

...and with all those great recruiting classes, Richt has produced wins. 117 in 12 seasons and winning the East 5 out of 12 times isn't really underachieving.
Kiffin has recruited better at both UT and USC and his records are 7-6, 8-5, 10-2, and 7-5. You are a fool if you would take him over Richt as a HC.

We had an absolute clown for a defensive coordinator. You know, the same one that let Crompton carve his defense up the following year. Gave up 38 or more points in a game 5 times in that one season alone. Hard to live up to expectations when you're giving up points like that.

Let me get this straight. UGA has better recruiting numbers over the course of Richt's tenure than every other team in the SEC. And UGA has put more players in the NFL than any other team in the SEC. And this proves your point?
How about this. What if I simply say that UGA has had talent on par with the best teams in the SEC throught his tenure as HC of UGA. Can you go along with this statement?

I wouldn't expect you to understand how many season ending injuries we had that year so I'll just keep it simple.
Kiffin took preseason #1 in the Pac 12 to 5 losses. He essentially had a 2 games season (Stanford/Oregon)
Mark Richt took Preseason #2 (or 1 depending on the publication) and lost 3 games.
Please go on....

Kiffin's recruiting at UT is quite irrelevantn as he never actually coached his own recruits.
Rather, he coached an extremely thin team with way way way less talent than UGA and a QB named JONATHAN CROMPTON...and with this rag-tag crew of players, he beat the red-clad team coached by the man with the sweet sweet Butt Cut by the score of 45-19.
I would definitely take Lane Kiffin over Mark Richt. Call me what you will.

i'm gonna need a link for that. Because, I have a link showing that LSU had 52 guys in the league in 2011 while UGA had 45. LSU had 5 guys drafted (57), UGA had 7 drafted (52). Still looks like UGA hasn't put more guys in the NFL than LSU. Care to share a link?

That is a more accurate statement, so yes. And, his record reflects that as he has one of the best records of any coaches in the SEC throughout that same time frame.

Are you actually attempting to draw a significant distinction here? Do both not qualify as underachieving?
Do I have to mention the part about UGA beating atrocious atrocious UK and Auburn teams by 4 and 3, respectively? Shall we add an additional loss to UGA's schedule for the year on the basis of the general putridity demonstrated therein?
Jesus tittyfricking Christ, dude. Your guy had a preseason ranking of #2 and the team reaked worse than my nuts do. That's underachieving.

But the problem is that he hasn't been in the national championship conversation like the others. I'm seeing great talent and then good results. With UF, LSU, UA, I'm seeing great talent, great results.

Why are y'all going on about this? Richt is playing for the title Saturday and will be at UGA for some time to come.
Posted on 11/27/12 at 4:33 pm to bobbyray21
I"m not trying to be like a fricking dick here. I don't actively hate UGA. My hate for Florida is so strong that it literally monopolizes all the hate that I have in my body, and so I don't feel terribly strongly about any other teams.
I'm simply presenting what I believe to be a reasonable argument and I think the facts support my conclusion that the performance of Richt-coached teams on the field is not commensurate with the talent of the players on those teams.

Yeah, see my last post.
Congrats on him beating arguably our worst team under Richt. We were the definition of awful - Joe Cox as the starting QB, Willie Martinez coordinating the worst statistical defense in school history and #118 in turnover margin. Up until the season finale, it was the closest thing we had to a Ray Goff team.
But by all means, continue to believe the current laughing stock of college football coaches who thoroughly embarrassed himself this past weekend is a better head coach than Richt.

Might you be willing to make a wager on which one of those teams had more NFL talent? If so, let me know. I'm in. Just name the price.

I'm glad that people like you think so highly of Richt. I hope he is the UGA coach for the foreseeable future.

I imagine it was probably UGA.

Don't kid yourself. UT has mightily regressed ever since Richt was hired.
