Hypothetical List of Ideal Candidates for LSU HC Position

I understand that no change has been made, but my dad and I always enjoy discussing hypotheticals when it comes to potential hires.
I decided to review a number of both collegiate and professional coaches who either have direct ties to the SEC, Louisiana, or have served under some monumental coach (e.g. Belicheck, Saban, Meyer, etc.).
Coaches are separated by tiers, but their listed order is not indicative of my overall preference.
Also, I have chosen to list only coaches who would consider giving LSU an interview. Coaches such as Meyer and Saban are exempt from this list because you and I both know that neither is likely to depart from their current gig. Other coaches who likely fall under this particular distinction include Jim Harbaugh, Gary Patterson, Art Briles, Jim McElwain, and Bob Stoops.
And finally, career NFL coaches or individuals with essentially no ties to college football, particularly the SEC, are not eligible for consideration. For example, Josh McDaniels has served under both Belichick and Saban, but his only collegiate experience pertains to a single year he served as a graduate assistant under Saban at Michigan State.

Where is Les going?

David Shaw is already coaching at his dream job. Take him off your list.
Otherwise your tier 1 list is a pretty normal dream list that never comes to fruition during coaching searches.
Ohio State and Alabama are the only two programs in the last many years that landed a truly proven stud head coach in a long time.

Mark Dantonio
I've always thought of him as the next Nick Saban. He will absolutely kill it at a big time program.

Dabo Swinney
I'd take him.

Jimbo Fisher
Calling him would be a courtesy. I don't think he'd leave and quite honestly, I kinda have an uneasy feeling about him wearing purple & gold again.

Chip Kelly
Not gonna happen, don't want either.

Brian Kelly
Would be a disaster at LSU.

Take Brian Kelly, Dantonio and Shaw off your list, then add Fuente somewhere below Herman and Whittingham but above Holliday.
Posted on 11/18/15 at 10:45 am to saint amant steve
Or just skip the bullshite and call Tm Herman.
Dabo isn't leaving Clemson for LSU. TBH, I'd rather have Herman than Jimbo. Chip Kelly may win the NFCE this year. Mark Dantonio has zero ties to LSU and a (heart?) condition. David Shaw is at his dream job at Stanford.
Gundy really hasn't done much without extremely good OCs. Fedora was a bust at UNC until this year. Bill O'Brien
. Whittingham is a possibility but I'd rather have Herman.
Doc Holliday would be on my list, but after quite a few names (as you posted).

Well he doesn't have much time left...better get on it

Tom Herman (Head Coach at Houston)

I'm not buying the Dabo hype personally. He's done well, this is true but his defenses are no muy bueno year in year out.
My pick would be Fisher or Herman.

Herman has less than one full season under hist belt.
I'm waiting to see if he is just a one-hit wonder or the real deal.

Arkansas did it twice with Petrino and Bert.

Not to mention the LSU job hasn't been open for a long time. It's considered a top job in CFB. These LSU fans who think Miles is the best LSU can do need that flashy thing from Men In Black so they can forget the 90's. 90's are over. LSU is a destination job these days.

90s are over. Coaches don't leave smaller programs for the bigger one every time anymore. Don't know who we could get and don't know if they're going to be any better. I'd like to see the list of potential candidates from here circa 09/10.

Yea I'm gonna need you to elaborate on this. Do you have any examples? Because I can think of quite a few coaches leaving smaller programs.

plus 1 What he has done at Utah is pretty special. Jimbo Fisher has far superior talent than anyone in the ACC and is still losing, no thanks.
