How much is the AD willing to pay for a big time OC after showing what they’ll pay for Dave.

Well USA Today reported Canada makes $1.5M, which is the highest among OCs in the nation. So at least $1.5M

The bigger question is whether he will authorize paying Canada’s buyout.

so provided Canada gets at least 2 million of his buyout, and the new OC makes somewhere in that neighborhood, damn near 7 million dollars invested in your coordinators

Since Canada is being fired because he and O can't get along, I don't think its unreasonable to take the buyout directly out of O's pay. Otherwise nut up and play nice like big boys.

Add in 3.5 for the HC
And we made fun of the 7.5 a year for Jimbo?

That’s kind of my thinking...but that’s for 1 coach...
O-3.5
DA-2.5
OC(?)-up to 2???
Just wondering what upper tier schools pay for their HC and OC/DC combined

Fisher runs the offense though, they don't have to pay high dollar for an OC - just standard position coach money.

3.5 for O, 2.5 for Aranda, 1.5 for [OC name] = $7.5m for HC + both coordinators, all contracts under 5 years, for about $28m total.
Meanwhile, a7m invested a $7.5m/yr-10 yr contract on their HC alone for a $75+m total, not even including coordinators.
...yes, we are laughing at a7m.

well it looks like they are about to pay $3M for someone NOT to be the OC.....
So paying someone at least that same amount would be reasonable.

Why?
They have a better HC than we do. Even if he had to call the offensive plays, they would have a better OC than we do.
We won with Aranda, so we will absolutely have a better DC. Thats it. Not exactly a basis for laughing at them.
The money doesn't matter. They have it. They aren't having to take the rent money and put it on red.

I thought we hired a "big time" OC last year.

See there, you answered your own question. Think about it... we probably owe a7m for forcing our hand. Aranda is now into a contract paying him more than any NFL team would pay a DC. So the only reason he would leave is if the challenge of the SECW, the toughest defensive division in NCAAF, becomes boring and too easy.
And it's reported to be a four year deal beginning 2018. Therefore, we've likely kept Aranda around to be there to replace a certain someone should a certain someone fail or not be retained. Aranda is a brilliant defensive mind who is highly organized, intellectual and structured. He is a prime candidate to become the next Saban-like head coach, and I am fully convinced that he has been designated as coach in waiting.
