In the OP, I was not trying to compare the quality of coaching job between Auburn, Arkansas or Texas.
I was comparing the sequence of events of the coaching search.

at comparing the LSU job to the Texas job. IMO, Bama compares because its high profile, lot of tradition. But even then, Texas' money coffers have literally no end.

Jeez people. Bama is still a really good job regardless of this. Lots of money, decent recruiting base, a football school. In the SEC. Lots of tradition. Still the big brother of the State (sorry Aubie).
Look at Nebraska and Notre Dame. They haven't done crap in a long time, but they still get talked about every weekend. Notre Dame got into the championship game with a craptastic team last year based on "prestige".

But that's what makes this coaching search different. You were saying you thought it would go the same as those, but my point is its a whole other playing field when you're talking UT or Ohio State coaching vacancies vs any other schools.

This is more comparable to Tennessee's search than AU's in my opinion. So many UT sources were saying Gruden was a done deal with so many sources reporting BS, like vetting staff. AU may have had other names in the beginning, y'all weren't misled into thinking you were getting a bigger name. By the way, aren't you glad you didn't get a "bigger name" and ended up with Gus?

I don't know if you'd call them 'up and coming' but I really see them getting someone like a David Shaw or a Charlie Strong or Mark Dantonio. They're going to fizzle out trying to get an Urban Meyer or Nick Saban type that's already been at the tip top of the game but one of those guys thats at a lower school and doing well, yeah.

Name the last program to make a big time splash hire.
Alabama in 2007? But even then, they were ready to hire Rich Rod and no one at Alabama thought they could get Saban until Mal Moore went to Miami.
Ohio State got Urban Meyer, but Meyer wasn't coaching at the time.
Florida got Muschamp, and I guess that's a splashy hire but he was just an assistant at the time with no head coaching experience.
How often do programs make huge hires? Not very often. It's usually an up and comer or someone with some previous success that doesn't wow anyone.
