This is not hard. This is what dinners and shite like this is for. Fundraisers etc. so boosters can actually speak to higher ups.

Fickell and he takes it. He can’t win at Cincinnati, and Ohio State and Notre Dame look to have HCs that will be there for a while, so the timing of this may be right. I don’t think Kiffin would take the Auburn job, I don’t think Auburn would hire Freeze, they want a big name, but safe coach…Luke Fickell, final answer.

Been my choice for a couple of years.

Would be a very interesting hire.

Depends on the state of the program. At the high school level boosters are a necessity to fund a program properly. Rare are the high school teams that can operate at full capacity without their money. So those boosters have quite a bit of pull when it comes to who is coaching the team. I've even heard of booster club presidents sitting in on interviews and offering insight.

At the college level it's a little less conspicuous, but same rules apply. If your program can operate without their money, then the AD has more power in the hiring process. If you NEED their money then the boosters will run the show if they so choose, like at Tx A&M.

At the end of the day money talks...

The more money you contribute the easier it is to get your opinions heard and taken seriously.

big money guys text board of trustees' guys like teenage girls

the BOT guys keep the AD informed on who is happy and who is not, because there's always big ego money guys throwing their weight around if they don't get stroked

at Arkansas, Hunter Yurachek had Lane Kiffin three years ago, and some money guys had one BOT guy torpedo Kiffin, just out of spite because of guys they've wanted hired in the past and they didn't get their way, so they'd rather burn shite down than see someone they don't like have success

ETA: then some good old boy network lying Arkansas media made up some bullshite about Kiffin wanting more money and "being disingenuous" about a previous verbal agreement

you know all this

the more big-three sports championship notches an AD has in his belt, the more leverage he has to make his own decisions
