re: How does a program like Tennessee have such trouble getting a coach?

Oregon is a very small stadium, but has a great atmosphere. Michigan is a very large stadium and has a horrible atmosphere.
Well, now we're getting into stadium design, acoustics, and demographics.
Autzen was designed to trap noise. And Tiger Stadium traps sound better than The Big House. And it'll only get noisier in TS with the SEZ addition.
Add to the fact that a lot of the Michigans fans in The Big House are older couples, who wouldn't make as much noise anyway, even if they could.
I'd venture to say that Michigan has as large an alumni base as both Oregon and LSU combined.

state of Georgia has only 29k less blacks than Texas. and Texas is a huge state and the population is all spread-out. 30% of Georgia's population is black.

This was brought up earlier in the thread. It's not just the numbers of recruits, it's the type.
UT can't fill a recruiting class with in-state talent alone, no way. And UT not only has more schools to recruit against than Arky does, but those schools are also bigger and more successful than the ones Arky is recruiting against.
We are not arguing the fact that Tennesse is a good job. I've said it is. I just think that Arky has a slightly better chance to succeed than UT does. We're only talking a question of degree here, and it's small.
IMO, and I've stated this before, no team benefitted more from the recent expansion than Arkansas did.

UT has the facilities. Better overall facilities, in fact, than anyone else in this conference. And maybe any other conference.
This is total bullshite

See, and I don't get this. Memphis, they go up against each other, and I would argue Tennessee is the far more successful program than Arkansas. Arkansas then has to go against Texas, A&M, or LSU while Tennessee has to go against UGA, Bama, and Auburn. Pretty much a wash there.
But then, Tennessee can go east and north to North Carolina and Virginia to recruit against VT, UNC, NCSU, Duke, and UVA. Tennessee is the far bigger fish. It's like how Penn St not only own Pennsylvania, but they could take their pick of Maryland recruits as well.

then how come Arky recruited 9 4* in the last 3 years and UT recruited 35 4* players? I'm not talking about the 90's, I'm talking about last 3 years when UT had 3 straight losing seasons and 3 different coaches. (about to have 4th coach)
this is why I hated essays and liked math when I was in school. math is straight up fact with no room for bs.

Derek Dooley landed 35 4*s over the last 3 years at Tennessee.
Bobby Petrino landed 9 4*s over the last 3 years at Arkansas.
Arkansas was going through one of its golden eras and Tennessee its worst 3 years stretch in school history.
Both are average recruiters at best.
Seems the proof is in the pudding.

How come Arkansas has a BCS bowl and Cotton Bowl in this span while Tennessee has 3 consecutive losing seasons?
Because 4* lol.

It's a fact that Arkansas is recruiting head-to-head against a lot less div 1 programs than UT is.
And I think that's played into the recent coaching search. Arky had no trouble filling their vacancy, and hired better coaches each time.

two words. Derek Dooley
and tons of attrition due to 3 coaches in 3 seasons.
and we're arguing about recruiting advantages here, developing and using them is another story.
Chizik at Auburn recruited well. but the team sucked. you can't argue that Arkansas recruited better than Auburn. Auburn landing lots of top prospect in last 4 years is a fact and can't be disputed.

Then why can't Arkansas recruit on the same level as us with a far better coach and team?

best in the nation. opening up soon LINK
I don't know why an Alabama fan would be questioning UT's facilities.

Obviously we have out recruited you, on the field results says so.

It's a good question, and maybe that's about to change. A better question would be why Arky has a better record over the last four years, even given last year's disaster, despite that talent gap?

I agree. Recruiting ranks don't mean shite if you can't coach up that talent.

I actually thought it was pretty obvious.
