And name him Associate Head Coach

If they go the HCIW route then Saban would decide when he would retire, how he would retire, who would replace him and how much power he would have after he retired.
I’m not following, how is that different from now?
Saban is in complete unopposed control of that program, now and afterwards, whether he has a HCIW or not.
He’ll be calling the shots at Bama any way you slice it, barring an unforeseen scandal.

get that Bama is the premier job, or def top 3, in the country, but I seriously wonder who is going to want to follow Saban at Bama?
I don't want to give names because I have no idea who it will be at the time, but it'll either be someone like Kiffin, a hotshot egomaniac betting on himself getting a chance he's not yet qualified for, or some washed coach looking for a payraise before retirement knowing full well that he won't be coaching in 4 years. It's more likely to be a Kiffin imo.

That is quite literally the dumbest "plan" I've ever heard laid out for a hot name coach starring $7-8M

you know we could have said the same thing about Bobby Bowden in 2005 but he started to slip and Jimbo came in for 2007 and Bowden was forced out in 2009
I cant imagine a Saban team slipping to the level that Bowden did, but to me Bowden got to stay on two more years because they brought in Fisher to be OC/HCIW
under a Saban HCIW scenario he would orchestrate and manage the entire transition process with HIS guy in place. The most important piece would be Saban running interference with the lunatic Bama boosters before during and after his retirement for HIS guy. Dont forget that Bama was a Booster Insane Asylum when Saban took over. I am sure there would be a long list of people wanting to get back into the inside of the program with Saban gone.

It is a relatively poorly kept secret that Texas made 2 runs at Saban and that Sexton infamously set the 10 year/$10 million a year ($100 million) price to get folks talking and absolutely squeeze REC's nuts for all they were worth. Texas was the only really viable suitor at that price the first time, and that sort of gave it away.

So he turned down multiple SEC jobs last year to stay another year at UL and then go be an OC?
That's fricking retarded.
If that's the plan, why didn't he just do it this year.
This is the stupidest rumor yet.

Napier make 2 mil a year. O’Brien makes 1.1.
1) Napier isn’t waiting 7 years to be a maybe HC of a major school
2) Napier isn’t giving up nearly 7 mil to wait 7 years to be the maybe HC of a major school.
F off with this stupidity.

Please don't lump me with supa
As far as this goes, I have absolutely no doubt supa was told this. And I don’t know why he’s getting shite on as he clearly said he doesn’t believe it to be true.
I don’t think this hypothetical plan makes any sense whatsoever for either Napier or Bama. But I’m glad he posted it, because it is interesting to think about who wanted this out and what their motivation is. The obvious candidate is Sexton since he reps Napier, and this could theoretically up his demand to not only just get the LSU job or any of the others that will come open, but that increased demand could potentially get him a better contract. At worst it may get him some interviews at high profile gigs that he could leverage to get more from USL (not salary, necessarily, but other perks and promises).
But I’m fascinated by Sexton and how much power he has in CFB by repping so many coaches. He can move chess pieces around all over the place. But how does he avoid conflicts of interest? They have to come up all the time, right. Surely every year he’s at least got a couple of clients who want the same job, right? Yet they keep signing with him. Obviously he’s great at getting them all more money by pitting his clients against each other, but is that enough for them to be cool with wherever they land after the musical chairs stops? He can’t possibly advocate for them all the same. That’s just always been interesting to me.
Or, this could be from Woodward if he really wants Napier and is trying to do whatever he can to make it easier to sell to the LSU boosters and fan base.

Take this for exactly what it is worth, but Rico Beard, who is a co-host on an afternoon sports radio show in Detroit and a big MSU fan and well connected with the program, just said that LSU is going to get Napier. Again, take this for what it is worth.

Cold sauce he will never be considered for bama
Posted on 10/21/21 at 10:28 pm to supatigah
So he’s going to take a step down from being a HC to an OC and wait 4-7 years? Do you realize how stupid this sounds? He will have a power 5 HC job next year if he wants it.
