The game is won in the trenches. Great Dline play causes turnovers with fumbles and ints.

not as much today. The ball is out too quick. Get the frick out of here with that shite. Brees, Brady and co get the ball out in 2.5 secs. That isn’t enough time to “win it in the trenches”. Great dline play is more about stopping the run and and filling gaps so those backers can fill the holes as much as they can defend the pass. The game is controlled by linebackers and defensive backs.

re: Honest Discussion about Nielsen
You are right in one respect, McDaniels did run the Broncos into the ground. He is a complete control freak and wanted full GM responsibilities as well.

Denver, fortunately never gave him the GM responsibilities or things would have been even worse during his time there.

I believe you are dead wrong about Ryan Nielsen though. He has been the primary person who has built that defensive line for the saints. You are trying to tell me he has learned absolutely nothing about what it takes to be a DC during his time there, or at his other coaching stints??

Joe Brady was a total unknown when he was hired as what effectively was our OC, whether anyone wants to admit that or not. He had zero experience in that role, and yet proved not only was he damn good at running an offense, he was the best ever to be seen in NCAA Div I football.

Nielsen comes in with much more experience from his previous roles than Brady did at that time, and you are still trying to say Nielsen is nowhere near qualifed to be a DC.

It remains to be seen, but I believe you are going to not only be proven wrong, but dead wrong. You will be eating your words by next season if Nielsen becomes our DC.

Guess that Co / DC experiment LSU had just wasn’t shitty enough for you… Some people never learn

Co-coordinators, both offensive and defensive, are used widely all over college football.

Just because it didn't work at LSU in 2008, doesn't mean it can't work in 2021 with complete different human beings involved.

Mallory and Peveto failed because they both sucked. It had nothing to do with the "co" situation.

I would gladly eat my words. Being in the room with Payton and doing everything Payton did is what helped Brady. We still really don’t know IF he is a great OC. What we know about Brady, he is smart enough to cash in on one season where teams really didn’t know how to run the more complex offenses ie Saints scheme. That is what helped LSU and got him with Rhule - who is an excellent OC.

For all we know, Brady + Ensminger were balanced enough to compliment each other. And that is what made 2019 successful besides having a 23 y/o QB studying film all day like a pro.

Raymond already proved he can coach S here at LSU. LB position is open. You get whoever you think is best available coach for DC. Position coaches are secondary and shouldn't dictate your DC. I'd rather have a nasty DL over any other position on D because they elevate the play of the LBs and secondary automatically.

They can also hire analyst who are actual coaches to fill whatever voids they might have on defense. They're fine.

The only way I like this hire is if he’s Co DC with Corey Raymond. Because be honest.. D-line coach what does he know about coverage? In today’s style you have to stop the pass first. I’d feel better if I knew his scheme. It’s really a win win to promote Raymond to co DC with nielson. You have a veteran DB specialist as a curtain and you give him a well deserved Promotion
Guess what nobody gives a shite if you like it, but you would probably be better to accept it....

The “co” is usually just a title for more money and to learn how to be a coordinator in the future. There is always someone in charge.

Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban have all had co-coordinators.

Honestly, I don't hold his lack of play calling experience against him that much
so we'll have an OC and a DC that have no coordinator experience.

Is this what O meant by hiring the best coordinators?

re: Honest Discussion about Nielsen
You just hire a LB and S coach and let Nielsen coach the DL. Recruiting the DL with Nielsen and O is gonna be wild. You're going to know pretty quick if he can call a defense.

re: Honest Discussion about Nielsen
If Nielsen can get the Front 4 to dominate the run & pressure the pass, like he has for 4 years with the Saints, then you can have mostly marginal players at LB/DB with only one or two standouts in the back-7, and have a dynamite defense, like the Saints have.

Think Auburn D 2019.
